Barack, we hardly knew ye.
A couple months ago you were the smartest, best candidate for POTUS and you were elected to that job. Now a scant 48 days later you're the dumbest guy walking. You put the wrong preacher in to give the invocation, therefore you suddenly support everything he does. You no longer have a mind of your own, and you won't listen to the naysayers. How dare you! Along with that you don't know anything about who you ought to put in your cabinet, and which services ought to be cut or given more funds. You even went on a vacation to Hawaii while they were still telling you what to do! What is wrong with you? Don't you realize that the people want their picks, and that they know best, and they'll drill you into the ground with their actions and words. You will do it their way, or else. I guess this is a learned response from the bush years of my way or no way.
Your saying you're going to do it differently was good, until you started doing it that way, and then all hell broke loose because you did what you said you were going to do.

You can't please most of the people now, it seems. They know much more than you do, and they will hound you for not doing it their way. So be yourself Barack. Do what you can to stop the bleeding but don't surrender your integrity to a mob.

Thank you for listening.
Your proud supporter,
jaxx

"I'd read your post but I'm too busy arguing with people with whom I agree in substance but not in form on just about everything."

15. But what about shrill?
I don't even know why I'm bothering. Oh wait - it's 15 degrees out and I'm stuck inside. Maybe I should go clean the toilet or something rather than read these threads - I'd see less shit that way.

So now pandering to bigots at the expense of the people who elected you is integrity?

12. I don't see the pandering.
I do see the "how dare that man do what we don't want him to do".

13. BULLSHIT
So when he doesn't end the Iraq war, or even try to end it and the anti-war left complains, are you going to accuse them of being all -- how dare he not do what we want him to do?

Your sophistry is B-O-R-I-N-G

Oh wait - that's right. He's the president - he doesn't answer to ANYONE. Hmmmm............ I wonder where I've heard that before.

23. I don't think that's it at all.
I think what you're really seeing is a group of people, reliably Dem supporters that are deeply hurt by the decision to have Warren deliver the invocation. Those people are questioning the judgment of Obama in elevating this man to that position of honor. That's not exactly the same thing as throwing a childish tantrum, as you seem to be implying here.

Obama is my President, but I won't NOT question his decisions just because he has a "D" after his name. That kind of blind loyalty for a President is for freepers.

17. Obama enjoying his wife and kids in the knowledge that no one will say it is not a real marriage...
or family, like Prop 8 did to LGBT families.

"That boy is not French. He's a Jew!"

That's the line spoken by the Gestapo officer in Au Revoir les Enfants, Louis Malle's semi-autobiographical film of Jewish boys that had taken refuge at a Catholic Academy. What it really means is that the Jewish boy is not a citizen like the other boys, he is not even a member of the human race. This is the essence of bigotry, the dehumanizing of people on some basis, whether it be race (the nazis saw Jews as a sub-human race), religion, or sexual orientation (another frequent target of the nazis), or mental and physical incapacity (mental patients were the first to be incinerated by the nazis).

18. Uh, I don't think anyone has said that inviting Warren to do the invocation indicates that
Obama supports everything he says and does. Of course not.

Yes, the invocation is just symbolic, just two minutes. Nevertheless, Warren was an incredibly dumb choice, to take the most charitable view of it.

Yes, I'm aware Repugs have had just as bad or worse. To quote one of them, "so?"

21. President-elect Obama would be the first to say all of us have a right to speak our minds.
It is not to say that by doing so we are saying President-elect Obama is not the best person we could have in office. It is saying that we are taking him at his word, that he will listen to everyone at the table! We are his base and if we can't give our opinions then there is no reason for DU.
