Obama is Evangelophobic

He is afraid of the power of the Evangelical movement and must reach out to it. Fear of God is one thing, but fear of Rick Warren and his financiers is another.

Bigots won't change because you reach out to them, especially those that want to do you harm and deny you existence. It is too simplistic to think all that has to be done is make a peace accord with them. It is possible for some of them to become accepting, but not most of them - it becomes ingrained and part of their being. I see what Obama wants to do, but he is wrong, and it insults us to have someone who works against us in a place of honor for an overture that will only embolden those on the right.

I remember an incident when I was younger where I did something really hurtful and humiliating against someone who was defenseless and being picked on just because I wanted to be part of the cool crowd. The reason for this was because I feared being attacked by them as well if I didn't conform. This situation isn't much different.

That's who Obama is trying to reach. This isn't a tactic to peel off freepers but the vast majority of people that seriously haven't even thought about gay marriage and certainly not in any context.

I also believe Obama tries to reset friend and foe issue for issue. Obama will use Warren as far as he is willing to go on a case by case basis and that extends to everyone. I think it is the smart way to go, like a semi-parliamentary thinking many, many temporary coalitions working together when common goals can be found and if all else fails we can always just just go gangster and put through what we want if we have the numbers.

The lowest common denominator is always a back up plan but it shocks me that Democrats are against even trying to practice what we preach.

I would be willing to trade this for his appearance at the inauguration. What POs many us is that he stood before the people at Saddleback Church to announce his views on the definition of marriage, then has the audacity of hope to place Warren in a position of honor at his swearing in, which further gives validation to his views on gay marriage and everything else Warren stands for.
