The Bidens add second dog -- a rescue -- to the family
Probably already mentioned here on DU ('search' doesn't work well any more), and not exactly up there in Realm Of Important Issues Facing Us, but hopefully, this will mollify the people previously mad about the non-rescue puppy.

Barking advocates cheer Biden plan for shelter dog
He gets out of the doghouse by vowing to add a second pet.

By Amy Worden

Inquirer Staff Writer
It's a good thing Vice President-elect Joseph R. Biden Jr. will live in a sprawling mansion and not a condo because his family is about to get bigger - again.

Biden, a lifelong animal lover, says he will add a second dog when he moves to the Vice President's Residence in Washington next month.

"We're going to have more than one puppy," he said in an interview that will air today on the ABC News show This Week With George Stephanopoulous (6ABC, 10:30 a.m.).

Word that Biden will head to a shelter to adopt dog number two was cheered by animal-welfare advocates who were disappointed by his decision this month to buy a puppy from a breeder.

3. Not completely mollified, but significantly less disappointed in him.
I would like to see an end to all puppy mills, but we can't blame the dogs. Maybe the brouhaha over his selection will bring increased awareness.

5. Don't think this was posted before, so thanks! And me thinks, maybe someone in the Biden
family reads DU.

There were several threads on this last week.

And maybe they caught on that many of their biggest fans were a little disappointed, given all of the homeless dogs in the country.

Now the pup will have a pal to play with over at the Observatory.

9. This is what annoys me
Edited on Tue Dec-23-08 10:54 PM by LynneSin
#1 - Biden never once made any public statements about a dog or commitments to adopting a rescue
#2 - Bidens have always owned German Shepards so when they opted to adopt another dog it was natural to do what hey have done in th past
#3 - Bidens made it a point to use only a reputable breeder
#4 - And yes, they adopted a dog from that breeder and I'll gladly use the word adopted. Someone gave me shit about using the word adopted because money was involved. If that's the case then millions of children in this world are bought because it's kinda tough to adopt a child in this country without money being exchanged. So I'll continue to use the word 'adopted' when it comes to Joe Biden and their new German Shepard puppy.

11. What a sweetie!
I "adopted" a gerbil today.

I already have three adopted dogs (resuces all), but the kids wanted a little pet for Christmas. "Little Guy" is hiding in his cage up in our room so Santa can put him out Christmas Eve. He's not named, yet.

But, in a few short hours, he's gone from being a skittish pooper to climbing into my hand - I had to make sure he was people ready and wouldn't bite the babies, so I petted and loved him and, yes, kissed his little whiskers.

Did I mention that I LOVE animals? :)

But, the kids asked for a little animal. They love them, too.

Merry Christmas, Biden puppies!
