As I stated a few days ago, I have a friend who works with and is an advocate for disabled people, he is also a social conservative who is against abortion and same-sex marriage. so is this guy a saint because he works with disabled people with such compassion or is a an evil monster because he is a social conservative? the culture warriors can see no shades of gray, to them he is an evil monster despite all the good he does. It is this black-and-white thinking and demonizing of otherwise good people that happen to have bigoted views on one or a few issues because of upbringing and social influences in their lives that I hate. This is the "smallness of our politics" Obama was criticing.

Screaming "evil bigot" and "evil enabler of Satan" at each other gets nothing done, and certainly doesn't do anything good for civil rights.

122. It's a DAMN good book. Thy pretty much predicted the past decade years or so to a T.

The book describes an 80-year-long, 4-part social-historical cycle that is driven by, and drives, generational change.

The authors label the 4 parts of the cycle: Crisis (last one was 1929-1945) High (1946-1963), Awakening (1964-1983), and Unraveling (1984-2005). Now we're in a new Crisis period similar to the Depression and WW2, the Civil War, and the American Revolution. And they also label 4 types of generations: Prophet (Boomers), Nomad (Generation X), Civic (WW2 Generation, my Millennial Generation), and Artist (the Korean War Generation, and today's preschoolers).
