Since he didn't release a tape before this election, he's either dead already, or too scared that doing something like releasing a tape showing how he currently looks may cause him to get captured and killed.

I think it's quite possible that some terrorists maybe tried to hide his death, perhaps fearing the blow to the morale of terrorists and like minded extremists if that happened.
