All of those DUers that complained that Caroline Kennedy wasn't qualified to be appointed Senator because she'd never run for/been elected to any other office -- why aren't you screaming about Michael Bennet's appointment?

Curious...

I can't think of any job Caroline Kennedy has done which compares even remotely to that.

2. Yeah and I am sure everyone in America knows how well respected
and adored the Bennet name is in American politics. He never would have gotten the job otherwise :sarcasm:

3. We're trying to find our jaws--they dropped so far in shock.
Nobody has much against him other than the fact he worked for that crook Philip Anschutz. Anschutz took all of the retirement money from QWEST employees. He's a champion rip-off artist like all the other Wall Street crooks. DUers might know Anschutz as the man behind the Narnia movies. This should remind everyone that he's a bit of a religious nut.

Of course we don't really know what Bennet's employment for King Anschutz means.

Like many of the choices Gov. Ritter had, Bennet really should stay in his current job at DPS for the good of the people he currently serves.

4. Bennet has worked for a living in his life. Caroline has only "dabbled."
Curious .... that you're so eager to compare the two.

But now that you've started it up, go on, do it. Check their resumes.

Bennet's is far more impressive. He's actually gotten a regular paycheck, and he was also on Obama's short list for the Secretary of Education cabinet post, so he's been vetted already at the federal level.

I have no idea if his selection was designed to eliminate infighting for the seat at the state level, if the guy expects to just be a placeholder until the next regular election, or if he, or Gov. Ritter, has an agenda in mind...or if OBAMA had a role in helping the Governor come to his decision.

Excerpted from another DU thread on this matter:

Prior to his superintendency, Bennet served for two years as the Chief of Staff to Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper. Highlights of his accomplishment at the city include: closing an initial 10 percent budget gap in the first two months of office; balancing two consecutive budgets in Denver's worst recession in history while preserving city services and avoiding layoffs almost entirely; conducting five collective bargaining negotiations; devising strategies to pass five ballot initiatives; and assembling a very diverse widely-acknowledged leadership team for the city.

He worked for six years prior to his tenure at the City of Denver as Managing Director for the Anschutz Investment Company in Denver, where he had direct responsibility for the investment of over $500 million. He led the reorganizations of four distressed companies including Forcenergy (which later merged with Denver-based Forest Oil), Regal Cinemas, United Artists and Edwards Theaters, which together required the restructuring of over $3 billion in debt. Bennet also managed, on behalf of Anschutz, the consolidation of the three theater chains into Regal Entertainment Group, the largest motion picture exhibitor in the world. Prior to moving to Denver, Bennet served as Counsel to the Deputy Attorney General in the Clinton Administration.

Bennet earned his bachelor's degree in history with honors from Wesleyan University and his law degree from Yale Law School, where he was the Editor-in-Chief of The Yale Law Journal.
