I was just reading various posts and the number of problems that need to be dealt with all at the same time and I have to wonder why anyone would want that job. Especially the way it all fell apart right there in late Sept/early Oct - just before the election.

I have to think the only sane response was, at some point, a question of "is it too late to turn back now?"

The entire thing has collapsed and it's clear that it is their fault.

Thank the gods for that. We knew it was coming. The giant sucking sound we heard was the great wave pulling out to sea -- and then, the tsunami came at us. Dammit, so many people saw this disaster coming. I think Shit-for-Brains thought he and his cronies would be able to get out of Washington and on to high ground before it happened so that they could mock the new presidency as somehow being responsible for all of it.

I also think that Obama's and McCain's very different responses helped tip the balance of the election.

5. I've thought the same thing, but I don't think the Obamas have.

I think he enjoys the challenge and unraveling the mess he is left. Bush has done such a poor job, Obama is going to shine, no matter what he does to improve it. He can keep his cool more than anyone I can recall knowing in my entire life.

What we have to remember is that we promised to watch his back...to support him. He isn't going to wave a magic wand and have everything turn out OK. It is going to take as much or more time to clean up the mess than it did to make it in the first place.

If Congress or the media don't work with him, we should zip off an email and remind them we're all in this together and to pull their share of the load. God knows, they have a pretty hefty share to pull. We aren't going to get this wagon over the finish line unless everyone is pulling in the same direction. Obama has shown he deserves our cooperation!

I never got this mindset where people say, "who'd wanna be president with all these problems Bush is leaving behind him?" Duh. Read about life in the Gaza Strip and then tell me it can't get a whole lot worse if people of good will don't get involved.

12. I'm sure that over the last two months

as the election results have sunk in, they've had thoughts like that. The country has never been in a bigger mess. Just think of the difference between taking over the presidency in 2001 and 2009. And with the war in Gaza, its even worse.
