Do The Damn Math
The country is in real trouble, Obama has a plan and the Cons have already signaled that they are going to do everything they can to obstruct him. We need as many senate seats filled as possible. Seat Burris for the 2 years and Patterson needs to get off the dime. With Sanders and Lieberman plus the possibility of one or 2 mod Cons we can get something done. And the dems better do their part to stand up for Franken when push comes to shove. These people need to get their act together. People are in need and each passing day only makes their situation worse yet these people keep acting like they have all the time in the world.

1. + What Senate seats do we stand a chance of taking away from Rs in 2010?

2. Haste makes waste
Some things are better done thoughtfully and with an eye toward permanence as opposed to "quickly". Have enough faith in Obama, Reid, Pelosi, Patterson and the folks at the DNC to give them a couple of weeks to get this done right.

3. Haste Does Make Waste
But in both these cases there hasn't been any haste. Quite the opposite, which is my point. How long ago was HRC picked for SOS? The Blago thing is marching on. Contingency plans need to be implemented and we need to move forward. Families who are 'food insecure' which is the new term for starving or hungry, don't have the luxury of time to wait.

4. First, Burris cannot be forced to not run for a full term
he can commit all he wants or anyone else wants, but he is free to run for a full term. Of course getting through the primary after reneging on a commitment not to run would be the main challenge. If he survives to the GE, color that seat dark red.

Secondly, I can't believe anyone in their right mind would even think about wanting to seat anybody that Blogo nominates. That is absolute political naiveté. If someone knows anything at all about politics then it's complete political insanity.

6. First Of All
Those who are not politically naive know that running in a primary does not guarantee that you're the candidate and as with previous Illinois races, the dems can run and support a different/opposing candidate in the primary. The Duckworth race is a prime example of that. In addition, where would Burris' financial support come from, if he is deemed a loser?

As to waiting. How long do you think the seat should be left empty? Cause by my reading, and the way things are going, it could be a year or more before that seat is filled if we have to wait for an impeachment. And one of the points to the recent election was to get as many seats in both the house and senate as we could. There was a reason so much effort and money was put into that goal.

5. I can only hope that, by reaching out, Obama will ge them to change their minds
Otherwise, surely he can be a decider too?

7. The Decider
May end up being the first bill that goes down in flames from McConnell's procedural tricks. And I do hope a 'cooler' mind prevails here.
