28. So true.
I gotta hand it to him... he was always amusing to me. Now, I don't know him well enough to know how good (or bad, as the case may be!) he'd be as a Governor, but he's certainly an interesting character.

2. After getting rebuffed in Fla and NY, he's settling for sloppy thirds...
Edited on Sun Jan-04-09 11:53 AM by sfam
As a VA resident, I'm not buying. I would prefer a governor who actually thinks of VA as his or her first choice. If he wins the primary I'm going to be really torn...my guess is independents (who have a huge percentage of the vote here) won't be torn - they'll be starting off in the repub column.

3. I'll place a bet with you right now
If he gets the nomination (and I think he will), he wins easily.

5. You apparently don't know VA very well
Kaine and Warner both had something that Terry does not. The ability to reach out to rural working class, a bit backwoods southern boys in the western part of the state. Terry is too flashy and too slick to ever pull that off.

9. Agreed...I would prefer he go slime another state...
Finally, when we have two Democratic Senators and a governor, I'd like to have some good vibes here for a bit...

Baghdad Terry is about to be handed his political ass. Even those of us in Northern Virginia prefer "plain spoken" to "polished."

Too cool Wolsh! You and I are going to have a front row seat here in VIR-GIN - I - A. ;) :hi:

p.s. Oh you'll have to enjoy from afar (GA). We'll report back to YA.

8. On what basis do you make this claim? Are you from VA?
I say this as a Northern VA resident. Northern VA will be more favorable to McAuliffe than anywhere else, and we here have doubts about the guy. My guess is he has REAL trouble making inroads among the independents. If so, he very well many be able to buy the Dem nomination, but his chances in the general aren't gonna be great.

Then again, its sloppy thirds after all, so I suppose some chance is better than no chance...

30. He won't win either easily
Moran and Deeds actually know something about Virginia. McAullife probably thinks he get by with just NoVa, but he can't. He's terrible as a flunky, I think he'll be embarrassingly bad running for office.

14. That's one of those car salesman one can spot a mile away......
I don't see Virginians being hoodwinked or Bamboozled. They seem rather too smart for the Okey Doke to me. I think they learned their lesson finally after voting for Bush in 2004. I don't see them backing up anymore losers; which describes Terry McAuliffe to a "T"!

isnt' there some state office holder who has dealt with voters in VA who would want to run in the democratic primary? Why Terry A?

The rest of us peons are less than impressed.

I'm voting for MORAN! :silly:

32. I'm not familiar with that area, but of course. It's not fair to stereotype an entire state.
Only some tendency for people to be "more politically liberal" near colleges. That's my right wing extended family's excuse for why I turned out an unabashed liberal pinko. ;)

24. Remember Baghdad Bob?
MacAuliffe acted just like him during the primaries. I think the night of the last two primaries he actually introduced Hillary at a rally as "the next President of the United States."

35. I don't plan on voting for him.
Fortunately, he's got two solid opponents in the primary: Brian Moran and Craig Deeds, both from the VA legislature.
Unfortunately, he's got two solid opponents in the primary...so there is always the potential to win by plurality...
