With the $170Kish salary he'll collect for those 2 years he'll be a millionaire!

And then the gobs of money he'll receive for speaking fees and whatever "charity" he starts he'll be on easy street for life. Get on the gravy train before it leaves the station Ro!

:woohoo:

Even though he opportunistically accepted the offer, he IS qualified and scandal-free. He might do a good job, and if he enjoys the job, and the people like the job he does, and he decides to run in '10, they MIGHT re-elect him.

One fact is certain.. he WILL have to run in'10, and there will probably be at least 5 or 6 dems who will challenge him in the primary.

All the recent drama has HELPED his re-election chances, because he's now seen as the plucky underdog, beseiged by everyone, and yet standing up for himself and eager to work "for the people".. The "ones not chosen", are the ones cast in the light of sour-grapes nitpickers..whiners..malcontents because they were not picked.

Had they all just accepted him, he would have been seen as a place-holder..Roland WHO??..and as 99th in seniority, he would have been a blip on the radar, instead of the rockstar he is now..

C.R.E.A.M.

For fuck's sake, Puck from Real World 2 makes $30k per speaking engagement; just imagine how much an ex-Senator would rake.

6. He won't take the compromise and he'll lose anyway in 2010 if he runs...
He's tried to run for offices before and he'd lose as much as he has in the past. I say we punt, give him the seat and he'll probably not run in 2010 anyway.

11. I say fuck his
extortionistic tendencies and have someone appointed by Quinn.

I don't know if that will be possible but that's what I'd like.

10. Nonsense. He has every right to seek whatever public office for which he is eligible. nt.
Thomas Jefferson when writing constitution for Virginia:

Every citizen eligible to elect shall be capable of being elected. Jefferson was actually referring to elections for the Virginia legislature.

12. You would think that in America, anyone who wanted to should be able
to run for elected office. Reid has no business telling anyone that they can't run for elected office.

in order to be seated. Hmm.... now who does that sound like?

22. He hasnt won an election in almost 20 years.
Or didnt you know that? In fact there was an informal chicago sun times poll, a few days ago, 2000 respondents. 60% of the respondents said they didnt want Burris even if Quinn appointed him.

24. Make him an ambassador to a country with a SUPER long name.
That way it won't fit on his gravestone and he'll have to add on.

Which he probably planned anyway.

26. It could be tempting for him. You just know "The Trailblazer" is dying to engrave "U.S. Senator"
on the tomb he plans to share someday with Roland II and Rolanda. If he fights this all the way through, he may never have the opportunity to get the man with the hammer and chisel out there again.

(Honestly, I think Burris SHOULD be accepted into the Senate: I'm one of those that think Reid and Co. are acting stupidly and basically un-constitutionally by keeping him out, but I ALSO think the pre-engraved mauso-resume and the naming of TWO kids after himself are definitely out of control.)
