Harry Reid is bad...very bad
very ineffective

I fear he will fail to get much of Obama's agenda through, despite Obama's massive political mandate. Reid is THAT incompetent.

8. Is there anybody IN the Senate speaking up about Reid????
Edited on Tue Jan-06-09 06:24 PM by butlerd
I really hope there is and I certainly hope Obama and his team are getting concerned about his leadership. Although our hands really were essentially tied in the last Congress because of dimson vetoing (or threatening to veto) everything we tried to get through and McConnell, Lott, et. al successfully filibustering (or threatening to filibuster) everything good to death in the Senate, I have this awful feeling that Reid's apparent fear of Republican obstructionism at every turn will hamstring Obama's agenda, which should really be inexcusable in the face of our increased majorities in Congress not to mention the fact that we will have a President actually willing to sign legislation that gets through. I don't understand how he even got elected Majority leader and how much longer the rank and file are going to tolerate his behavior unless this is all part of some grand plan that the rest of us haven't been clued in on yet. Are most other Democrats in the Senate really so nonchalant about his apparent spinelessness?

9. Reid is miscast. He was perfect as an appeasing/suck up Minority Leader
that was going to get trucked anyway but played nice and got a bone thrown his way on occasion. However, he's just too differential and politically neutral to ever be force to help actually lead the country.
Pelosi is at least effective, somewhat partisan, and can be ruthless but Harry is just there on longevity.

10. If I were Obama, I'd send Biden or Emanuel to do Reid's job for him.
Actually, send them both. It looks like they won't have the kind of influence that Cheney did in the Senate, but certainly Biden will have all the senators on speed-dial. Obama should be sending his surrogates, and himself when it's important enough, to Congress to go crack some skulls and push legislation through. Especially when Reid's going to play the cave-to-the-Republicans routine.

11. He isn't a likeable guy
I knew it had a slim chance of happening, but I was hoping Hillary Clinton would have become the Senate Majority Leader, thereby kicking Reid out...
