Zero tolerance for pay-for-play Senate seats!

A bribe is when you offer a public official a consideration--something of value--for an action that cannot properly be sold. Soliciting a bride is when he offers the government action for considerations.

You cannot offer to sell someone a senate seat for $100,000.

You also cannot offer to seat a senator in exchange for him agreeing to not run again. You cannot offer him an ambassadorship in exchange for resigning as senator.

Those are considerations in exchange for governmental actions that cannot be legally sold.

Yet they talk about these "negotiation" plans on TV like they were talking about something unexceptional!
