Sen. Russ Feingold pleased with selection of Panetta for CIA Director
hat tip Jack and Jill Politics:

“I am pleased by reports of the nomination of Leon Panetta to be the next CIA Director. These reports indicate that President-elect Obama recognizes the need for fresh leadership for the intelligence community. Leon Panetta has a long and distinguished career in public service and there are few people of whom I have a higher opinion. He has been a strong voice opposing the interrogation practices authorized by the Bush Administration and he is well-equipped to restore our national security, which has been undermined by the current administration’s policies. I look forward to closely examining his record, hearing his plans for protecting our nation against al Qaeda and other threats, and learning how he will help restore the rule of law after years of lawlessness that have undermined our national security.”

2. It's good to hear from Senator Feingold again, he has been silent for to long....
Sure would have loved to have seen him become Leader of the Senate!

4. I agree! I doubt much more would have been said if it hadn't been for Feinstein.
Her nose was out of joint, for one, but she should have complained in private. I don't think anyone can even grasp the enormity of what lies ahead of Obama. He has done a good job on a tremendously high percentage of the decisions he's made, and he sure doesn't need armchair quarterbacks complaining about every word he says or action he takes. I doubt there is one person on DU or in the MSM that could even figure out where to be, let alone what to do.

I trust his judgment and wish people would give him some breathing room.

And Diane being ticked off makes it better. If she's against him, he must be great.

8. He gets it. He knows that being CIA director is about management PLUS Panetta is anti-torture and
you know that is very important to Russ.

Too bad he isn't the head of the Intel cmte instead of Feinstein.

10. The Panetta choice signals that Obama is focusing on credibility, integrity and management..
The agency sorely lacks those aspects now. I am sure Leon will have people directly under him who will know the nuts and bolts. Good choice.

13. I trust Feingold
if he say's it's a good pick then I'll roll with it. Gupta bothers me, I know he's been an advocate for keeping private insurance in the health care mix from his go-round with Michael Moore, so his appointment seems to signal the death knell for any chance of achieving single-payer health care reform a-la HR676.

as neither have ever been for it.
