For One Special Voter, Two Special Days

Ann Nixon Cooper, the 106-year-old woman whom President-elect Barack Obama lauded in his election-night victory speech at Grant Park in Chicago, said recently that she had one thing left to do in life.
“I ain’t got time to die,” she said, “because I’ve got to see a black president.”
Mrs. Cooper is celebrating her 107th birthday on Friday, but she will not travel to Washington for Mr. Obama’s inauguration on Jan. 20.
“I’m not interested in getting into anything that big,” she said Thursday in a telephone interview from her home in Atlanta. “I won’t be trying to get into that crowd.”
