I've never watched an Inauguration!
This will be a first!

Did it always start days before?

There is a Big HBO televised Special on the 18th, with all of the superstars showing up......

1. You're going to like this, Frenchie!
I can't remember if it started days before--can't remember, but I guarantee you're going to like it. It's history! You'll probably want to record it.

:toast:

3. I am going to record it, thanks!
I didn't watch the last two because I was too pissed off.

I found a teeny bit of protest on C-Span that day....and I watched that a little bit.
But I couldn't watch marching bands, swearing in or any of that.

I didn't know that they had big ceremonies before the 20th though.....or is that new?

4. Aww... Inauguration virgin!
:+

Oh well. I remember Clinton's first. I was in kindergarten at the time. Both kindergarten classes got together mostly so that the teachers could watch it. I also remember Bush's when Rehnquist did the swearing in while he was dying. Meh, I guess I'm an inauguration whore!

7. I know! This is so cool!
Daughter is off school on that same day! We will be watching history and I can't wait for THE SPEECH!... I think I sneeringly watched W the first time, but certainly not the whole thing. I remember thinking that Clinton towered over that short little shit of a turd merchant!

9. Yes, inauguration festivites usually begin several days before
with the concert at Lincoln Memorial. I remember the concert there to kick off Clinton's inaugural it was either '93 or '97 and LL Cool J performed. So the festivities aren't new, but the excitement certainly is. There's never been an inauguration that people looked forward to more than this one.

16. This will be my first also.
I was in college for Clinton's first one. Who knows what I was doing that day. Probably sleeping. And I've been at work for all the others. I didn't care about Bush's inaugurations.

I'm having a 4 day weekend to celebrate. I requested vacation days right after Obama won the election. I'm off work Monday and Tuesday.

18. Nor I~ I know I was really
happy when I went into a natural foods co-op in Albany, New York in the early part of the century and saw black and white framed photos on the wall in the Deli room of protestors at the 2001 Inauguration.

19. I haven't missed one since '81...
... and I'm only 35 so that's saying something.

I even enjoy watching the ones for the guys I hate!

They are SUPERFUN Frenchie! There is pomp, there is circumstance, there is cheesy patriotism.

It's a beautiful thing.

I was 17 and so excited to have a Dem president, I just have the picture in my mind of Bill, Hill and Chelsea walking down Penn Ave. You will love it!

26. Inaugs are cool.
I embark on my historic trek on Sunday, so I'll miss the concert. :-(

Then again, what would you rather say? "I saw Bruuuuuuuce" or "I witnessed the 44th President's Inaugration?
