Bush is a Type A personality?
That is what * stated at his press conference today.

I seriously doubt he is anywhere near a Type A!

5. I dunno - this is how Wiki defines it - sounds quite a bit like him to me

1. An intrinsic insecurity or insufficient level of self-esteem, which is considered to be the root cause of the syndrome. This is believed to be covert and therefore less observable.
2. Time urgency and impatience, which causes irritation and exasperation.
3, Free floating hostility, which can be triggered by even minor incidents.

An insecure impatient angry individual.

8. Interesting that he would peg himself that way.
Doubtless he has no idea what the definition was when he laid claim to it. He only used "the Google" that one time to look at a map, and we all know he's thoroughly incompatible with book readin'.

conscience - or intellect for that matter. Ambition, action, movement... yes. Does "type A" equate: Success? Victory? Progress? (Progress assumed to be positive, not detrimental.)

Bush is active, physically active - and seems to have kept busy, little of which was of his own initiative - except in the most marginally, minimally, tangentially and infrequent ways.

But I don't know. Bush has accomplished a lot - who knew one man could wreak so much havoc and destruction to this most powerful country, it's citizens and to so many people in so many other countries to such unfathomable depths of devastation. It boggles the mind. So, in that way, Bush has accomplished more than many in modern history... it's just that none of it was well thought out, well-intentioned, ethically based, or good.

I'm sure there are a few things... I hope, anyway, that have improved in some way because Bush personally initiated the action and choices to make them happen. I can't think of a one, however.

Is there anything that is significantly improved (not by natural progression or outside forces) because of something Bush specifically did or said or enacted? Is there?

I like the designation of marine protection and preservation. He came up with that himself? In the eleventh hour? It doesn't feel honest to me, it seems like a last minute maneuver for self-interest in trying to scramble and boost his "legacy". Still, I'm glad about it. I don't really give credit to Bush though. If he really cared about the issue, ever, he would have done this years ago. I doubt it ever occurred to him. It was borne out of the 24/7 brainstorming sessions going on with people trying to sweeten his image. It wasn't his idea or initiative. It was handed to him, I'm sure... ugh.

He should never have been able to get into, much less continue as CinC. He was inordinately and so dangerously unqualified for the position. Damn him.

--

The Green River Killer was active and accomplished a lot. Does he then fit the "type A personality" category? If there is a moral, honorable, legal or useful component to the definition, then neither qualify.

otherwise, this pretty much describes his attempt to personify himself as a hard worker and great guy (and his entire 8 years)

I am still stunned he thought his response on Katrina was good.

22. Some quick research - the last sentence of which is the most telling:
Not the greatest of references, but there isn't much else (in the time I was willing to devote to the subject, that is):
----------------------------------------------------------

FROM: American Heritage Medical Dictionary:

Type A Behavior
n.
A behavior pattern characterized by tenseness, impatience, and aggressiveness, often resulting in stress-related symptoms such as insomnia and indigestion and possibly increasing the risk of heart disease. Also called type A personality.

http://medical-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/type+A+behavior

* * *

FROM: Answers.com:

A temperament marked by excessive competitiveness and ambition, an obsession with accomplishing tasks quickly, little time for self-reflection, and a strong need to control situations

Type A individuals can be described as impatient, excessively time-conscious, insecure about their status, highly competitive, hostile and aggressive, and incapable of relaxation Friedman(1). They are often high achieving workaholics who multi-task, drive themselves with deadlines, and are unhappy about the smallest of delays. Because of these characteristics, Type A individuals are often described as "stress junkies."

Symptoms of Type A Behavior(2)
1. An intrinsic insecurity or insufficient level of self-esteem, which is considered to be the root cause of the syndrome. This is believed to be covert and therefore less observable.
2. Time urgency and impatience, which causes irritation and exasperation.
3. Free floating hostility, which can be triggered by even minor incidents.

Criticism

Type A/B theory has been criticized on a number of grounds... Because of these criticisms, Type A theory is considered to be obsolete by many researchers in contemporary health psychology and personality psychology.
