Bill Clinton will continue raising money for Democratic candidates even after his wife is installed as secretary of state, a spokesman for the former president told The Hill on Monday.
Clinton spokesman Matt McKenna confirmed Clinton would continue as one of the party's most prolific fundraisers during the coming years. On Monday Clinton sent an e-mail to donors on behalf of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, which is dealing with a monstrous debt following the 2008 elections.
The former president remains a big draw for Democratic candidates around the country. His e-mail on behalf of the DCCC adds to a growing number of prominent Democrats who are asking for money on the committee's behalf.
Since Election Day, DCCC chairman Chris Van Hollen (Md.) and Democratic strategists James Carville, Paul Begala and Donna Brazile have penned their own e-mails looking for cash. After the latest Federal Election Commission filing deadline on Nov. 24, President-elect Obama did his part, contributing $3.5 million in leftover campaign funds.
