I've been away from DU, away from politics and tv - enough going on in my home life...
But I just popped back in because I watched Hardball for the first time tonight in a long time. And it just hit me.
November 4th happened. It was a decisive victory - over before 10 pm. There is a terrific slate of qualified people set to pick up the reigns of power in Washington at a very crucial time in our nation's history.
There is a bigger buzz here in Tampa over the inauguration than over the upcoming Superbowl. Than over Gasparilla. I can't even imagine the electricity that must be crackling all over D.C.
I am thrilled beyond words. Its going to be big, and I am so, so proud to be an American today. Right now.
I am going to pay a little more attention to everything for the next week. Maybe we all should. We'll retell the story about the time we remember, when Obama was sworn in. What a great day it was for our nation. How it brought us back from some strange brink we'd let ourselves wander aimlessly towards, led by the siren song of religious extremism, both Christian and Islamic.
Do you feel that? That change in attitudes...
Greed is not a virtue, and rampant deregulation only encourages greed. Torture is what the bad guys do, not what the U.S. gets scared into thinking it needs. The Constitution is the cornerstone of our Democracy, not a relic from our past. Science will search for truth, not work to find partial truths to fit agendas.
Jobs are coming. Union is not a dirty word, Don't Ask Don't Tell to be repealed, Transparency. Fearless leadership.
Watch Obama's eyes when others speak. He listens. He hears. He understands. He will work for us.
I am getting so excited about our future. Its next week, guys. Next week.
Damn.
