2. I voted Illinois but...
I can see why they would go to Hawaii instead. Chicago is a major city, which causes more security problems for the Secret Service. Hawaii would be far more secluded, similar to Bush's rural Texas ranch. But it is up to the Obama family of course, not the Secret Service. The SS will adjust to whatever they decide.

Summer in the Windy City. Winter in Hawaii.

8. I want him to go to Hawaii - he loves it there and they can manage him there...
But, the right Wing nut jobs will scream about the cost every time AF1 takes off and heads west.

13. Certain persons here will also scream about the cost of flying him home
I need to go rinse my eyeballs after working my way through the Cancel the Inauguration thread.

However, I do think President Obama will prove to be one hardworking guy, so I don't envision him spending half his time out of Washington like the soon-to-be-departed resident. Whatever vacations Obama takes will be well-deserved.

Not to mention how much the reporters will adore being in Hawaii. ;-)

17. Fuck 'em...
Bush went on vacation more than any President in history, and most of the time those vacations were to my state of Texas...which is a long ass way from D.C. I don't think the Obama family will go on vacation anywhere near as often as the Bushes did. Having said that, they should go wherever the hell they want. I believe Obama will work 10 times as hard as Bush ever did.

10. Depends on the PURPOSE, I think.
They don't have a 'home' in Hawaii, but his sister is there, right? and could help with that. For real R&R, that would be the place, but he has such connections in Chicago, social etc., he's surely gonna be there lots. Their friends are planning to spend chunks of time in DC so as to provide his solid 'base' as he works.

Hawaii will be a stretch for a while, due to distance and logistics, I suspect.

SO the answer is, BOTH!

14. My house
I can dream, can't I?

I'd love to bake him a pie(s), and then long chats over coffee.

And, I'd love to play with his daughters.

And, I'd love to have long chats with Michelle.

But, most of all, I'd love for my little family to hang with his family for fun and silly and relaxing sake.

You and your family are always welcome to drop in anytime. I'll bake anything you want.

:) :loveya: :grouphug: :pals:
