I was making that judgment based solely on the way she dresses. Should also have put up an "in my memory" qualifier, cause I wasn't around for Mamie.

What I'm speaking of is a way of dressing that can also be witnessed in the difference between what American actresses wear at the Oscars and what everyone else wears at Cannes. No matter how revealing, our actresses look like virginal princesses compared to the Europeans.

As for their style, Jackie, Hillary and now Michelle, are the youngest first ladies since Edith Wilson. Their styles were obviously more youthful than staid matrons like Barbara and Lady Bird, for example.

Certainly it has to do with the woman's figure, but, in Michelle's case, I think her height is also a factor. She projects female strength and latent intensity. I have sisters like this, including one who is 6' tall. People like that can't hide what they are; only strong men survive around them.

I like that she is not meek. She seems comfortable in her skin. She is also very outspoken about being a mother. She is a perfect foil, in my opinion, to the right wing "little ladies" like Laura Bush and Michelle Duggar.

her hotness is only indirectly relevant to me, although I think you're right in that whatever a Woman is is directly related to her sexuality.

Maybe my associations with the word Feminine are skewed towards cultural characteristics like pretty, nice, pleasant, gets along with all men, etc. etc., where Woman seems more elemental and hence universal to me.
