Beyonce To Sing Obamas' Inaugural First Dance

WASHINGTON — Beyonce will sing for Barack and Michelle Obama's first dance on inauguration night.

And the song? "Crazy in Love?" Her version of Etta James' "At Last?"

The Presidential Inaugural Committee isn't saying. "It is our hope that we can keep the song secret until the moment," said spokeswoman Linda Douglass.

Beyonce is part of the star-studded lineup at the official Neighborhood Ball that will be televised on ABC, along with her husband Jay-Z, will.i.am, Mariah Carey, Alicia Keys, Shakira, Sting, Faith Hill, Mary J. Blige, Stevie Wonder and Maroon 5.

The Presidential Inaugural Committee said Thursday that presenters at the ball will include Denzel Washington, Jessica Alba, Leonardo DiCaprio, Ray Romano, Jamie Foxx, Queen Latifah and Kate Walsh.

The Neighborhood Ball is for Washington, D.C. residents, and will be broadcast live and streamed online with an interactive component on the Internet. The inaugural Web site allows people to host or find viewing parties around the country.

"We are encouraging people all around the country to have their own inaugural ball," Douglass said. "All Americans are invited to take a moment and have a little party, and they'll be connected to the folks in Washington and the Neighborhood Ball through both broadcast and on the Internet."

Beyonce has been eager to participate in the inauguration, telling a reporter the day after the election: "Whatever they want _ if they need me to volunteer, they need me to sing, I'm there, and I'm ready."

4. That would be the obvious choice ...
which is why I'm not so sure it'll be the one.

It doesn't really matter ... it will just be soooo nice to see them dancing as President and First Lady! :bounce:

3. Yuck.
Is it just me, or do most female singers now all sound vaguely similar?

I can't any of them apart on the radio and I'm not old (still in my 30s).

I can tell Janis from Aretha from Annie from Stevie, but I cannot tell Beyonce from Christina Aguilera.

Maybe it's because all of today's music is so watered down and commercial sounding.

13. Trilling
I don't like the way most singers go way off the melody and "trill". They think loud is good and hitting a high note loud and hanging onto it is even better.

9. I dislike the glitterification of the whole thing.

Honestly, the piling on of commodified "stars" is loathsome to me. I would rather see amateurs used. Childrens choirs, winners of music competitions, etc.

Turning this into a variety show is not new with the Obamas. But what is the reason for continuing it?

She has done some good charity work over the years:

The list of charities Knowles supports is both long and varied, but perhaps the greatest contribution she has made is the Survivor Foundation, an organization she founded with fellow Destiny’s Child Kelly Rowland to help victims of Hurricane Katrina. The foundation’s accomplishments are many, including the Music World Cares Christmas Carnival that enabled over 300 low-income households to enjoy a fun-filled day of food, entertainment, a visit from Santa Claus and free toys from the toy giveaway. The singer also held a series of food drives before her concerts in 2006 to collect the food that was so desperately needed by victims.http://www.looktothestars.org/news/1328-beyonc-honored-for-charity-work

Heck, that is more then what Bush did in Katrina!

21. Very good. Beyonce and Jay Z were very big supporters and
did a lot to get out the youth vote. The people attending the neighborhood ball will appreciate seeing some celebrities up close and personal. This is going to be a great couple of days!

:woohoo:
