Poll question: If Obama cut this deal with the pugs, what would you think?
Edited on Fri Jan-16-09 10:05 PM by Ken Burch
"OK, guys, here's the deal. I won't send Dubbikins and Dr. Evil to the Hague, as long as none of my bills or noms get blocked in the Senate".

I'm not sure he'd actually do this...but it's the best explanation I could think of for the reluctance to investigate. I'm also not sure what I'd think of it myself, but at least it might be Machiavellianism put to decent use.

1. I couldn't live with it.
Every time these kind of thugs have been given a pass "for the good of the country", they come back worse than ever.

If FDR had allowed Prescott Bush and his cohorts to be prosecuted for treason, we might have been free of Bushco forever.

This privileged crowd expects to get away just like their fathers and grandfathers did. I say enough is enough and it's time something was tried to stop them.

5. reluctance to investigate?
What do you base that assumption on?

His most recent quote I could find:

"We're still evaluating how we're going to approach the whole issue of interrogations, detentions and so forth … we're going to be looking at past practices and I don't believe that anybody is above the law."

6. Well, all the ambiguity of that quote:

I'm still thinking he may investigate, I'm just wondering whether he might have seen something like I suggested in the OP as a political strategy. Given that even with all his "reaching across the aisle", the 'pugs are still committed to all out obstructionism a la the "Southern Democrats" of the early 60's, I can picture Obama contemplating it. I might even defend it if it actually got huge legislative results.

In essence, it could be seen as the Lieberman deal writ very, very large.

10. Well, the idea would be that anything that kept most of the bodies buried
would help the party. And the 'pugs are good at instantly disassociating themselves with their worst. Remember how, by 1976, they seemed to be able to convince the country that Nixon had never actually been their nominee?

I can picture the 'pugs thinking this might be a good deal.

13. Actual pugs would, of course, have MUCH higher standards than 'pugs.

unlike 'pugs, REAL pugs would never tolerate war criminals in their ranks:

14. Even if his cabinet picks were all GOOD choices, I could not agree with that.
The Bush Crime Family has gotten away with far too much for far too long. They need to pay.

15. Republicans have no loyalty to Bush, Cheney or anyone else....they look out for #1 only
Obama has some silly shit idea he's "healing" the nation when in reality he's just ensuring Bush/Cheney get a free ride. Stupid and harmful to democracy but its Obama's choice and he seems intent on bending over...

Don't look for the Republican goons in congress to play this game. They could give a shit less-Bush/Cheney is old news to them. Fucking Obama is job one now

16. Anyone who says "I couldn't" has their head so far up their ass
Edited on Sat Jan-17-09 12:34 AM by Occam Bandage
it's extruding from their neck and back up their ass a second time. Four years of the Democrats being able to act with absolute impunity, without any concern for filibusters? My God, the only reason I'd vote "I couldn't" is if I were to fear that the Democrats would pass too many reform bills and they'd face some sort of public backlash, and even that would be worth it a hundred times over.
