Awarding Tony Blair the "Presidential badge of Freedom", was sad confirmation of the Bush Blair cheapening of the UK and US special relationship. A UK Prime Minister that is a friend to the US does not blindly follow a President in to an illegal war. If something is illegal a friend should say so.
Being offered the Presidential medal of freedom is about as wise as Bush giving it Bernie Madoff for sevices to the economy. Blair had the good sense to not accept the Congressional medal, becasue on the day he was given it, it was revealed his Government was complicit in th eeffective murder of a nuclear scientest, who had the gall to say that the intelligence was over exaggerated. For that a man committed suicide (hmm), we invaded a wrong Country and the BBC was filled with Government lackeys to afraid to criticise.
He has continued his record of success as Middle East Peace Envoy. Awarded for his work in Northern Ireland (the work was actally done by John Major, his Prime Ministerial predecessor and Mo Mowlam, his Secretary of State for Northern Ireland). Blair just got to "feel the hand of history".
The Security Services told Blair intelligence about Iraq and WMDs was sporadic at best, Blair translated that to our Parliament and your Congress as "detailed and authoritative". Blair is the reason many Democrats supported the Iraq war.
Blair should have been imprisoned. He got away with murder and then finally he got away with selling seats to the House of Lords. Blair and Bush have blood on their hands and in some ways Blair has more of it than Bush, because Blair knew better.
