I sometimes think that the press and a goodly portion of the population is ready to pounce on Obama if, within one week of taking office, he has not halved unemployment, secured backing for the U.S. Dollar, balanced the budget, bounced the Dow to over 10,000, brought peace to the Middle East, and cured cancer and AIDS while shooting a few hoops.
The damage done by Cheneybush and their pals is unimaginable in scope, and if Obama can even begin to give the country and the world the impression that he takes his thankless task seriously, he will have already done more than his predecessors have done in the last eight years. Even if the damage can be repaired, my bet is that it will take more time than Obama has, even with in two terms in office, if it can be done at all.
We have to try, of course, but like MLK said, "I may not get there with you."
