01/20/1993 - The LAST time I felt like this ....
Edited on Sat Jan-17-09 03:14 PM by Trajan
After 12 years under the bull-headed stridency of the Reagan/Bush regime .... After 12 long years of watching the economic security of families dwindle under Republican anti-worker policies that devalued the fruits of labor ....

After 12 tortuous years and a recession that smacked down common citizens in the late 80's and early 90's, though on a smaller scale than the results of GOP administration we see today ....

Finally: A Democrat takes the oath of office and assumes the seat of power ....

Finally: The darkness of Reagan/Bush faded to light, on January 20th, 1993.

William Jefferson Clinton was inaugurated on January 20th, 1993, and I was absolutely elated that finally; The Wicked Witch was dead ....

The GOP had badly stumbled in their stewardship of the nation, and a weak and feeble elder Bush could not lie well enough to dupe a majority ... They had lost, and they were devastated ....

Cest La Vie, Assholes ....

I recall the wonderful moment when Bill, Hillary and Chelsea walked the final half mile of the parade route to the White House, with citizens cheering at the end of a dark age, and the start of a new era of hope ....

Exactly 16 years later ... AGAIN emerging from the depths of an inflicted darkness and despair of Bush/Cheney, but far worse than it's predecessor, Reagan/Bush .... AGAIN we see a light growing in the darkness of a world damaged by conservative philosophy ....

It will not be a perfect light ...

It will be dim at first, but it will grow stronger as Obama finds his stride, and seeks to bring a salve to bind the nation's wounds and sufferings ...

WELCOME President Barack Hussein Obama ....

Shine a light in the darkness, and help an injured nation heal ...

It's been a long and ugly 8 years ....

The nightmare of the most despicable pResident in history is over ....

Cest La Vie, asshole ....

1. I'm even more excited this time
And what makes it sweeter is that a lot of my conservative acquaintances are also excited.

8. Clinton is a special human being ....
Weak to his own humanity, but a decent orator and visionary ....

I was pretty fucking mad at him for letting his DICK guide him to scandal, which reflected poorly on US, his supporters ....

But in the end, he had the needs and concerns of regular Americans in his mind in his day to day life ... And even after the latent disaster of NAFTA, I respect him greatly ....

I loved him BEST on January 20th, 1993 ... THAT day is a day I remember clearly ....

Reagan Bush was even longer than Bush Cheney, but Dumbya didnt let that stop him from creating greater damage .... a drunken bull in a fine china shop ...

9. I wasn't nearly as into it then.
And for all the issues I have with Warren, I think you'd have to be an automaton not to be thrilled at all this.

11. This is my first experience, and it's right on time
My hope would have been forever lost if McPalin had pulled it off somehow.

I was too young to remember the Clinton Inaugurations.

12. I was at work during the day, but I remember watching the
Inaugural balls and seeing the Clintons dance. I remember crying and thinking that our (Baby Boom) generation finally had a chance to change the world.

14. After NAFTA, GATT, WTO, DOMA, DADT and
welfare "reform" for humans but not corporations, I did NOT feel the same way in January 1997, although I did vote for Clinton in 1996 (just not as enthusiastically as I did in 1992).

16. I am with you.
I was ecstatic when Bill took office, but the ever to the Right triangulation of his "Centrist" administration soon turned my ecstasy to disappointment, and eventually despair.

I am one of those people who is cursed with a memory.

18. I hear ya ....
Those initiatives were SO harmful ... I truly feel Clinton didn't understand the ramifications OR the true goals of those in the corporate world who promoted this stuff ...

I think Clinton actually believed it would lead to 'increased' US production of goods that would be made by US workers and sold across borders that would be opened by NAFTA and GATT ....

He was obviously quite naive ... turns out producers didnt want American workers to make a damned thing ...

Even now, he claims to regret those moves ....

In any case: After the dunderheaded Reagan administration and the inept Bush I regime: Clinton was a much needed breathe of fresh air ....

17. "Ain't the same fuckin' ballpark, it ain't the same league, it ain't even the same fuckin' sport."
In the immortal words of Jules.

I was glad when Bill was inaugurated, but it ain't even close.

19. Just reminiscing ...
Not really comparing them: Simply comparing the times and how I felt about them ....

The LAST time I felt like this was 1993 .... That doesnt mean I felt 'better' then ...

The Obama presidency has far greater importance, and possesses more gravitas as a moment in history ....

In any case: I did not feel so good in 2004, 2000, or 1996 .... They do not compare in any way to this ....
