Did anyone catch that very awkward moment on CNN a few minutes
ago? I was only partially listening but CNN along with the press were seated with the Obamas. Michelle said something (cracked wise to me) and Barack said to her "Michelle, you don't say that with the press sitting here." She then apologized. The press sort of laughed awkwardly but Barack was clearly annoyed. Camera then went to Wolfie and crew and you could have heard crickets. Did anyone hear what it was Michelle said? Donna immediately picked up the conversation with "Michelle is a strong woman," blah, blah and then they moved on from it.

1. I saw a moment
when she said his speech was good and he responded with something about the press but I took as them just being playful - nothing negative.

3. Ah thanks. He was probably kidding her about praising him. CNN
pundits acted so weird as if she said something nagging or something to him. Thank you jazzy...

4. he was joking if he said, "you don't say that with the press sitting here" loud enough for them
and for everyone to hear.

i'm sure awkward moments occur all the time, there's just no way to be a human being without them, much less a president. but if he were really correcting her and suggesting that the press shouldn't hear something --he would do it discreetly. that is unless he was trying to be funny.

5. It was a joke about setting expectations

Michelle said that she thought the inaugural speech was great and she was looking forward to it... Obama then told her "Michelle, you don't say that with the press sitting here, just say it's allright." It was all in fun.

7. Nothing to see here folks
they where joking about his speech and Michelle said something about
how she is anticipating the speech and Obama said you don't say those
kind of things infront of the press, he wanted her to say the speech is
no good or something to that effect.

Here you are misrepresenting the facts, it was a snark might I add.

Now...now...

14. Not mis-representing at all. In my OP I clearly wrote I did not know what
she said and was just asking if anyone had... Snark? I think not.

10. Michelle said...
that she was looking forward to the swearing in and his speech. When she said, "And his speech," Barack playfully told her that she wasn't supposed to admit that in public. He had been saying a couple moments before that "Michelle doesn't wanna listen to me talk, she probably wants to just listen to the music" in a joking manner. It was all just a bit of playfulness between the two.

17. Here you go:
Obama on Train Trip: 'You’re Never Too Old to Toot the Horn. You Pull It and CHOO CHOO!'
January 17, 2009 5:48 PM

As they traveled from Wilmington, Del., to Baltimore, Md., the Obamas kicked back.

Michelle Obama, who turns 45 today -- and was feted with leis and a Hawaiian themed party on the way to Washington D.C.'s Union Station -- hyped her husband’s inauguration speech, saying it would be good.

"That's not what you're supposed to say in front of the press!" President-elect Barack Obama joked. "You're supposed to say it'll be alright!"

The Obamas were at the time talking to some of the 16 special invited guests and their family members, people whose personal stories of struggle touched them during the campaign.

"There's no way Barack can sneak up," Michelle told the crew. "When he first came to D.C., the girls and I were there early -- we were there the day before so I'm watching TV and I see him land and get off the plane -- and then I turned off the TV and then we started hearing all these helicopters and I thought –- oh, 'Malia, Sasha –- I think Daddy's coming!'"

"You're never too old to toot the horn," Obama told the group. "You pull it and CHOO CHOO!"

Mr. Obama recalled his April 2008 train tour. His campaign "wasn't going that well at that point" but it was "liberating," he said, to stand on the train and watch the landscape pass by.

"It was actually one of my favorite times on the campaign," he said.
