I know I am going to be accused of poutrage but I admit I am pissed off that I didn't get to hear
Robinson's invocation. Evidently, no one did. To give credit where credit is due, the Gay Mens Chorus singing at the Memorial brought tears to my eyes. His specificly mentioning gays was great. But yes, I am very pissed that Robinson's prayer evidently wasn't played anywhere to anyone. Nowhere did it say his prayer was before 2:30 so no one had any expectation that we needed to watch before that time. NPR didn't have him on and neither did CNN or MSNBC. No vid at youtube. It was one of the things I specificly wanted to see and hear. Accuse me of poutrage, I don't care, but this was an historic moment and it should have been recorded.

1. This may not be a fitting comment, but what absolutele enrages me is the
talking heads rehash and re-gurgitate and re-chew cud through ONGOING events on a split screen.
They literally have commentary about things that are going on at the same time they discuss them we cannot see and hear the original.

I cannot imagine the times I stand there and say: STFU and let me hear.

It's the same thing like not bringing the Robinson prayer. Whatever they felt they needed to spread a little thinner was more important.

GRRRRR.

45. I felt the same way watching the convention. Talking heads, lips flapping in the breeze. Then, I
flipped to PBS, only to find out that McCaskill had been giving a great speech. but, you would have thought from NBS that nothing at all was happening on the convention floor and the talking heads were chatting to fill in the gap in the activities.

I want a black R shirt that says in red letters The Media Stink.

I'd like to know who made that decision. It was a beautiful and challenging invocation.

28. Yes I understand - even if the Robinson Invocation had proceeded without 'gliches'
Warren's invocation will still be a bitter bitter moment.

And as bad as his homophobic statements are, he is in fact leading a broad front of attack on anti intellectual principles.

And your right about legitimizing him. Millions of people who don't follow the details will think he is a 'swell' guy.

And he will make some completely superficial wave of inclusion in the invocation that will be completely untrue.

He is an intellectual swindler that simply works on Madoff's scale of fraud.

44. I think it's worse than that
Millions of people who don't follow the details will think he is a 'swell' guy.

My prediction is that Warren will give a speech that is slick as shit. After all, it's a job interview for him -- he is running for Pope of America -- and he will be on his absolute best behavior, just like you are when you're on a job interview.

I'm guessing that by tomorrow afternoon, there will even be people on "progressive boards" like this one saying, "See, you were all nervous about nothing -- he's a really great guy and gave a wonderful speech."

Once he gets annointed pope -- something he will probably do with the help of the MSM -- then the gloves will come off. We will be living with the stink from this turd to the end of Obama's presidency in 2012.

10. I will not accuse you of poutrage, or anything like it, dsc.
I'm on the left coast and my cable is super basic, and I wasn't even trying to catch everything.

It's a disappointment, to say the least, that HBO and others may have downplayed the invocation, and downright tragic if there were tech problems.

Poutrage would have been if you had tried to blame this on Obama, and you did not.

I fully expect that it will be available somewhere sometime soon on the net, but it just won't be the same.

13. And, if what yardwork says is true, there will be no audio...
Also, give it time, if it were a cellphone or small digital video camera that recorded it, the person who recorded it probably doesn't have the means to upload it immediately. By tomorrow, however, if there's still nothing, I'm going to assume no one, not one individual recorded it.

14. Was local media, other professional video, present, or just HBO?
There would ordinarily be multiple audio sources if there are multiple video crews.

Possibly, white house archivists were there.

Also, YouTube material often doesn't show up until several hours or a day or two have passed.

It's GOT to be recorded somewhere, and on more than cellphones!

50. It's mostly white men

They came after a tribute to Marion Anderson, and since they were not identified, the fact that the choir is overwhelmingly white and entirely male was the standout characteristic.

Seemed like an odd thing to do in tribute of an African American woman.

Shame on HBO for not showing it.

Never in my life have I heard a crowd scream their applause during and after a prayer before.

"A Prayer for the Nation and Our Next President, Barack Obama
By The Rt. Rev. V. Gene Robinson, Episcopal Bishop of New Hampshire

Welcome to Washington! The fun is about to begin, but first, please join me in pausing for a moment, to ask God’s blessing upon our nation and our next president.

O God of our many understandings, we pray that you will…

Bless us with tears – for a world in which over a billion people exist on less than a dollar a day, where young women from many lands are beaten and raped for wanting an education, and thousands die daily from malnutrition, malaria, and AIDS.

Bless us with anger – at discrimination, at home and abroad, against refugees and immigrants, women, people of color, gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people.

Bless us with discomfort – at the easy, simplistic “answers” we’ve preferred to hear from our politicians, instead of the truth, about ourselves and the world, which we need to face if we are going to rise to the challenges of the future.

Bless us with patience – and the knowledge that none of what ails us will be “fixed” anytime soon, and the understanding that our new president is a human being, not a messiah.

Bless us with humility – open to understanding that our own needs must always be balanced with those of the world.

Bless us with freedom from mere tolerance – replacing it with a genuine respect and warm embrace of our differences, and an understanding that in our diversity, we are stronger.

Bless us with compassion and generosity – remembering that every religion’s God judges us by the way we care for the most vulnerable in the human community, whether across town or across the world.

And God, we give you thanks for your child Barack, as he assumes the office of President of the United States.

Give him wisdom beyond his years, and inspire him with Lincoln’s reconciling leadership style, President Kennedy’s ability to enlist our best efforts, and Dr. King’s dream of a nation for ALL the people.

Give him a quiet heart, for our Ship of State needs a steady, calm captain in these times.

Give him stirring words, for we will need to be inspired and motivated to make the personal and common sacrifices necessary to facing the challenges ahead.

Make him color-blind, reminding him of his own words that under his leadership, there will be neither red nor blue states, but the United States.

Help him remember his own oppression as a minority, drawing on that experience of discrimination, that he might seek to change the lives of those who are still its victims.

Give him the strength to find family time and privacy, and help him remember that even though he is president, a father only gets one shot at his daughters’ childhoods.

And please, God, keep him safe. We know we ask too much of our presidents, and we’re asking FAR too much of this one. We know the risk he and his wife are taking for all of us, and we implore you, O good and great God, to keep him safe. Hold him in the palm of your hand – that he might do the work we have called him to do, that he might find joy in this impossible calling, and that in the end, he might lead us as a nation to a place of integrity, prosperity and peace.

AMEN."

That made Warren's prayer tolerable or at least acceptable.

But you can bet your ass that Warren's prayer will be a prominent part of Tuesday's broadcasts.
