So The Gay Community WAS Represented In The Televised Concert Yesterday?
Edited on Mon Jan-19-09 10:56 AM by cryingshame
and the group that performed gets no recognition here?

I had to go digging and just happened to find this info.

Is this posted in the DU Video Section yet?

HISTORIC FIRST: WASHINGTON DC GAY MEN'S CHORUS PERFORMS AT OBAMA INAUGURATION CONCERT

In a historic first, yesterday the Washington DC Gay Men's Chorus performed to a national audience in the live broadcast of Barack Obama's inauguration concert on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial. Backing pop stars Josh Groban and Heather Headley, the chorus performed My Country, 'Tis Of Thee wearing suits adorned with the red AIDS ribbon. The ribbon was the only indication that the chorus was gay, because like several other choruses that performed yesterday, their name was not announced or listed onscreen.

2. I actually thought it was a snub of Robinson until someone posted that HBO only covered
Edited on Mon Jan-19-09 11:00 AM by cryingshame
THE CONCERT and not pre-concert events. And Robinson was obviously not performing in the concert.

Then I went looking to find out about any GLBT performers who may or may not have been included.

14. NPR didn't broadcast Robinson's remarks either
I wish they had. But I'm still going to listen to them on the radio.

3. It did get recognition.
I was here reading the posts while the gay men's choir was singing. None of the choirs were announced on HBO.

5. Two irrefutable facts:
1) Bishop Robinson DID deliver the Invocation to the attending audience (it wasn't included in HBO's televised coverage because that would have meant one of the celebrity performances would need to be cut or excluded)

2) The Gay Men's Chorus performed as well, as you and others stated and clearly saw

I don't understand why people would try to twist the situation to find outrage. It's true--you can't please everyone and some people just look for the negative in every situation.

9. Wow, a thread at 5:00 this morning. HOW could I have missed it. It's not like there're multiple
threads about Robinson's participation in the PRE-Concert events and how that is supposedly a snub for him not getting televised with the ACTUAL Concert portion.

11. You said there was NO RECOGNITION,
not no recogntion that I found. You bottom line accused us of lying to your faces and then got caught lying to ours. BTW both threads were on the second page and one HAD GAY MEN'S CHORUS IN THE FUCKING TITLE.

12. This thread accuses us of lying if that is OK
why is it not OK to point out, accurately I might add, that the OP is totally inaccurate. On the second page, not some archive far away, are two threads that explicitly mention the chorus he claimed, falsely, wasn't mentioned. He flat out, gold carat, accused us of dishonestly presenting the issue and got caught. Yet my post gets removed.
