Participating in a day of national service, Obama helped refurbish an emergency shelter for homeless teens. Here Obama gives the walls a fresh a fresh coat of blue. Barack Obama is shaping the final day of his pre-presidential life around another giant figure, the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., calling for Americans to add to his honor him with a National Day Of Service.

Obama is honoring Dr. King by making a renewed call to public service: "At this moment of great challenge and great change, I am asking you to play your part; to roll up your sleeves and join in the work of remaking this nation."



President-elect Barack Obama also spent the day before his inauguration visiting wounded soldiers at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington.

5. I recall one or 2 Bush photo ops where he pretended to hammer nails...

...but I don't think I ever saw him REALLY roll up his sleeves and go to work.
