Sen. Hillary Clinton has sent a thank you letter to New Yorkers, saying they gave her the "opportunity of a lifetime" in electing her to the U.S. Senate.

Clinton's resignation is imminent, scheduled to come after her expected confirmation as U.S. Secretary of State by the Senate.

Clinton, in her farewell statement, said, "Serving the people of New York has been the opportunity of a lifetime to continue what has been the work of my life. It is been an honor and a privilege to be your advocate and to make real strides for those who have for too long felt as if they were invisible."
