Newsweek - No pardons for Libby, or anyone else!

If you believe this article from Newsweek, Bush is done pardoning people. Looks like Libby, Gonzo, et al, are out of luck:

On Bush's last full day as president, Bush did commute the sentence of two former Border Patrol agents—Jose Compeon and Ignacio Ramos—for shooting a Mexican drug dealer and then lying about it. But White House press spokesman Tony Fratto told Newsweek "you should not expect any more" pardons and commutations from Bush before he leaves office Tuesday. Another senior official, who requested anonymity discussing sensitive matters, confirmed that no more pardons would be granted.

1. It would be interesting if he didn't grant a pardon to Cheney or Rove.

Maybe he's held a grudge against them, was in no position to exercise his resentment, and now that they can't get at him, this is his final revenge. I'll bet he holds a grudge as well as his mother.

3. Hope not! I'll be surprised, but happy. I think maybe their philosophy on this is

if he pardons them, he is implying they did criminal activity regarding torturing etc, and they want us to believe it's constitutionally sound what they did.

4. Bush is classic. He will do nothing for any of his co-criminals unless

he has something to gain from it. Rove et al. are now history. This may prove to be somewhat shortsighted of him, considering that some of these people may end up implicating him.

5. *Bush* probably signed an executive order granting him the power to pardon anyone after he leaves.

6. He is relying on the Nixon defense -

if the president does it, it's not illegal. So, they all say that if they're prosecuted afterwards,
and, with a stacked Supreme Court, they just might back him on these issues.
