Do you believe "destiny" had anything to do with Barack Obama becoming president?
From Wiki:

Destiny refers to a predetermined course of events. It may be conceived as a predetermined future, whether in general or of an individual. It is a concept based on the belief that there is a fixed natural order to the universe.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Destiny

Of course, your belief or non-belief in destiny can apply to any person's situation or occupation.

Personally, I have sense that there is a quality of balance in the universe - and if there is an anti-Bush, maybe Barack is as close as we can elect right now. On destiny itself, I think we create our own futures for the most part; tossing in a little simple good or bad luck for flavor. I respect anyone's belief in divine intervention or destiny, I just personally attribute most of it to very hard work, having passion for what you believe in, and paying attention along the way.

Of course, regardless of the path he took to get to the mountaintop - Barack made it! How he got there is an intriguing question...

1. There is no such thing as destiny
There's no moral balance or order to the universe. You may sense it, but subjective feelings on the subject don't matter.

3. No.
Obama worked hard, surrounded himself with a good team and he was able to sell his message.

4. I don't believe "destiny."
There may be some fixed, natural order on an atomic level but that doesn't explain free will, which plays a huge part in human events.

5. Destiny
Tommy, Jordan, Mike, Richard....and millions more all had something to do with Obama being our 44th President. They all voted for him!

6. Then was it also destiny for Bush to be President?
I don't think so. Not in either case.

Or then again, America simply fucked up electing the idiot.

I agree with you by the way... :hi:

8. No
But I do think that the confluence of events that resulted in his election do have a magical quality to them.

...but the idea that it does is one of the most pernicious ideas out there. From this belief are tyrants spawned.

12. It happened so it
was meant to be. I wonder if anyone predicted this before the election?:)

I believe we have free will but there's a little bit of destiny involved and we got really lucky Nov 4, 2008 with a whole lot of work and prep.

The Perfect Storm was workin' for us.

13. No - Bush2 was never meant to be a leader or a president and never destined to be one.
So they STOLE TWO ELECTIONS.

You think Clinton was 'destined' to keep the books closed on IranContra, BCCI, and CIA drugrunning so Bush2 could take office?

Every step forward taken by the Bushes has always been based on many CRIMES.
