This is per MSNBC. May have to do with her Uncle Ted's health.

2. Or may have to do that
polls in N.Y. showed Cuomo a favorite.

6. word for the day: credulous
Are we to assume that Patterson had already decided to pick her, then she called out of the blue and withdrew her name?

Are we to assume that Teddy Kennedy doesn't want her to get the seat? So she's stepping aside to disappoint a dying man because she's so concerned about him?

For heaven's sake...

Patterson said he would pick right after Hillary was confirmed. Hillary is confirmed and then Caroline bows out like an hour later?

Doesn't it seem likelier that she was paid the courtesy of being informed she wasn't the pick so she could make a face-saving gesture of 'withdrawing' her name?

7. That seems to be the most reasonable assumption.
But Uncle Teddy also became ill yesterday. However it seems that option 1 is the most likely scenario.

8. The fact that Teddy's dying wish would be for her to be a senator undercuts everything
He would pitch a fit if she withdrew because he's sick.

In fact, from his perspective she would get to spend more time with him as a senator. (I assume Teddy will keep showing up for work to the bitter end.)

Sorry for my rudeness, BTW -- my post wasn't directed against you personally. I was reacting to a range of comments and theories offered throughout a number of threads.

10. Actually, upon reflection, I must agree with that analysis.
Teddy WOULD be furious. It must have been a political deal. Patterson didn't want to appoint her, and gave her a time limit to withdraw.

19. Glug, glug. glug. (And the word "concern" can be found in most of the better dictionaries.)
I think the idea of appointing Caroline Kennedy to the US Senate is low comedy.

I am not "concerned" about it. I just think it's medieval.

He appointed an insane person with ideas like Dr. Strangelove to the second most important position in the executive branch after President???

What a head-case he must be...

I have never said anything personal about Caroline Kennedy.

Ever.

If you are so screwed up that you think questioning whether an individual is the best person from our second or third most populous state for one of only a hundred Senate seats is a PERSONAL attack then it's no wonder you're so angry all the time. Life must be incredibly frustrating for you.

Slink away, psycho.

Edited on Wed Jan-21-09 07:51 PM by PBS Poll-435
Is there anyone else that is being seriously considered?

The NYP article mentions Reps. Gillibrand, Israel, and Maloney.

I would prefer that Gillibrand stay in the House. That is a Republican seat that is hers as long as she wants it.
