Michelle Obama Spoke Too Soon!!!
My first vote for President was for Al Gore in 2000. But we all know how that turned out.

My second vote for President was for John Kerry in 2004. But we all know how that turned out, too.

I am going to the UK for work this weekend, my first trip overseas. And I'm sure our new President will come up in conversation. And I just keep thinking how I cannot wait to tell them, "I am proud to be an American." I don't have to be embarrassed any more.

Michelle Obama said something this summer that got her into some trouble. But it didn't really hit me until today. Michelle spoke too soon. She should have waited until now.

So I will say it, and mean it, and those of you who have been around longer than I have can say it with me:

For the first time in my adult life, I am proud--truly proud--to be an American.

I feel like we're all glowing. Are we glowing? I hope this lasts. I hope our new President asks me to pitch in, too, because I am more than ready to lend him a hand. It's time to make this country the best it can be.

1. Agreed.
Yesterday I actually had the urge to fly the American flag outside. Without being mistaken for a repuke.

2. President Obama has already asked all of us to pitch in. So you're
invited!

Enjoy your trip, and keep on tripping. Your worldview will change. I hope you check back and let us know the reaction you get in the UK. I know they're happy, as are we.

3. I have been replaying the the oaths, the music "Simple Gifts, and the President's speech over and
over on my iPod, all day today while I worked, thinking eventually I'll be able to listen to the speech without crying. Didn't happen.

5. I've been around longer than you......
but I feel the same way. After 8 years I am so proud to be an American again. I'm proud to fly the flag, I choked up when Aretha sang "My Country 'Tis of Thee".

I remember when the first Bush was in office and my son was an exchange student in Germany. There was an awful lot of anti-American sentiment then too.

It's the Bush curse.

6. Thom Hartmann on Air America radio was at the Inauguration and he got a great
recording. You can stream his show or download it to your iPod. The crowd's responses to what was going on are THRILLING!

8. I was definitely glowing today. Gliding down the road (kind of dangerous)
to be that giddy and driving!

11. I'm so deeply proud of us!
I have an English friend who has been living here for a couple years. When I spoke to him last night, the first words out of my mouth were "Welcome to my country!"... It hasn't felt like my country for 8 years and I am so glad it and we are back!!

Thank you Mr. President!!!
