Oath mistake question.

What was supposed to be said instead of; "...that I will execute the office of the President to the United States faithfully..."?

1. "...I will *faithfully* execute..."

Not a big difference. I think Roberts just got tongue-tied since this was his first Inauguration and there were a lot of eyes on him.

8. "Go with the flow" I guess.

It doesn't change the intent of the oath--he's still supposed to do his job "faithfully"--which I take to mean, according to the Rule of Law and according to the Constitution. Which compared to that last guy we had...:) I don't think it's sufficient to invalidate the oath if the words are out of order: I understand there's a law that made him President high noon EST 1/20/09 come hell or highwater, oath or no.

"... that I will faithfully execute the office ...", rather than "faithfully" coming at the end.

9. Once in a while Supreme Court Justices get it wrong.

Or so I've seen.

For some reason the Justices on the right are like their political allies and can't speak in coherent sentences.
