Cornyn wants Holder promise not to seek torture prosecutions of Bush-era officials.
per Keith

And is delaying Holder's floor vote for a week.

Will Obama/Holder give in to this tactic?

or contract, to that effect, couldn't Holder still do it?

17. Our Houston mayor is going to run
But I think it will be for Hutchison's seat when she comes back to Texas to run for governor. Who we need is David Van Os; that is, of course, if your heart is set on real progressive values.

Bill White is so green. We all just love him, even most pukes. I wish he could stay mayor, but we've got term limits.

I think we are going to have one hell of a time here in 2010. Cornhole is vulnerable. It depends on how well the Texas Dem party can play this one. I have seen them often snatch defeat from the jaws of victory, but we can hope this time.

I'll work my ass off for either Bill or David, and both if I'm lucky.

38. Oh, please do!!!!
Rick Noriega held his own against Cornyn, but obviously, it's difficult here in Texas.

I think all Texas Democrats would welcome assistance in getting Cornyn kicked out!

7. Cornyn has been protecting Bush from prosecution for over a decade.
Bush was accused of violating Texas law when he took funds for his presidential campaign while the Texas Legislature was in session. The law is to avoid the appearance of impropriety, but Bush of course had no such concerns, reportedly taking money from people who had legislation pending before the Lege. Cornyn, as AG, saw no reason to investigate. I think he was also part of the syndicate that hushed up the witnesses in the Funeralgate scandal, where Bush fired the entire Funeral Commission for investigating one of his donors, SCI.

So this is nothing new. If Cornyn had any integrity, Bush would have probably never left Texas, and we might still have a prosperous nation.

16. So Cornyn wants Holder to violate his oath of office as a precondition
for senate approval?

"I Eric Holder, do solemnly swear that I will support and
defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies,
foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to
the same; that I take this obligation freely without any mental
reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully
discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. So
help me God. Oh wait, except for if someone tortured someone. Then I
will not faithfully discharge the duties of the office. How's that John?"

Wow, just wow.

40. Can't give in to UN power play. Holder/Obama won't promise before investigations.
However much they don't want to look backward, go after higher ups by casting wide net for lower fish lawyering up, to get bigger fish-which would escape as executives doing what they thought was right to protect the country. That's a reality.

Edited on Thu Jan-22-09 12:42 PM by sfpcjock
He's the last line of defense for Bush and Texas. Thom Hartmann is talking about it now at 9:20 am in the first hour. Stream it live and get the podcast for free here from KTLK:

http://www.ktlk.com/cc-common/podcast.html"> http://www.ktlk.com/cc-common/podcast.html .

After the NSA wired the press and presumably every US representative (see Olbermann Wed. night and again Thurs.) there was a staffer out of Orrin Hatch's office bugging Ted Kennedy's email. They knew in advance every line of questioning for Judge Fat Tony Elite-o confirmation hearings.

The corruption runs deep and they are running scared now about Holder. He'll still get in, so it's cool :toast:
