Military.com poll - Are you ready to follow the new Commander-in-chief?

Now that Barack Obama is President . . .

I am ready without reservation to carry out the orders he issues as Commander-in-chief.
32%
I will follow his orders, but remain concerned that his inexperience will get us into situations worse than those under Bush.
44%
I am going to leave the military as soon as possible. Sorry, but I don't trust him.
24%

.........

I feel time will make them more willing to follow - It is obvious President Obama is on their side. I hope it comes sooner then later. President Obama and the First Lady have made Military Families a priority and this in itself will send goodwill out to the troops.

When President Obama was a Senator he did a lot that wasn't broadcast widely for the troops. Too bad it didn't get more coverage!

And help for homeless troops:

Obama Bill to Help Get Homeless Veterans off the Streets Passes Senate Veterans Affairs Committee
IL Senator Urges Swift Consideration by Full Senate

WASHINGTON - Legislation introduced by U.S. Senator Barack Obama (D-IL) that would improve and extend services to homeless veterans passed the Senate Veterans Affairs Committee today. The legislation was included as part of the Senate Veterans Affairs Committees omnibus bill, a bipartisan effort combining a number of pieces of legislation to improve benefits and services for veterans.

"Far too often we see men and women on street corners with handwritten signs that say 'Homeless Veteran-Will Work for Food,'" said Obama. "Sometimes we give a dollar, sometimes we just keep walking. These are soldiers who fought in World War II, Vietnam, and Iraq. They made a commitment to their country when they chose to serve - and now we must keep our commitment to them. Because when we make the decision to send our troops to war, we also make the decision to care for them, to speak for them, and to think of them - always - when they come home."

1. They'd better
They really don't have an option. They can't just leave the military whenever they want.

4. Isn't it ironic that when it was a republican, not only they but we
were traitors if we didn't follow him without question and uncritically support any war he wanted, but when it comes to a Democrat, they think they can decide whether the CIC has enough "experience."

Like Dimson had any military experience! :banghead:

8. Yes very unfortunate isn't it - W was a disgrace all around. Shameful!
Let's hope the troops keep an open mind. I know President Obama will be their best hope in the future.

At least, for a little while. The 1/4 that want to leave, meh, go ahead.

5. lot is based on disinformation
reading the Army Times, some of the comments of folks on Obama expressed concern that he would cut pay.

Now no one who remotely follows politics would believe any president would propose cutting military pay.

But you have folks who dont follow things who think he will.

Once he doesnt and does some of the good things he has said he will do, they will come around.

9. They have no choice
"I, _____, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God." (Title 10, US Code; Act of 5 May 1960 replacing the wording first adopted in 1789, with amendment effective 5 October 1962)."

They took the oath.

23. They might just cite the 'Pelosi exception' to oath taking: only when you feel
like it. "Quick check the polls- nah, never mind - voters aren't paying attention..."

And I would wager that a most of the people voting are armchair generals, who have never served a day.

19. A poll without value is that one
Hell, I just responded to it, and I've never even held a weapon.

It's useless - can be skewed by anyone with a web connection.

It assign it zero value - much like all things "old" regime.
