Obama's task is to make America realize that part of putting away "childish things" is to become
"adult" as a nation and a society and realize that no one man or woman can keep us "safe" forever from our enemies and that we shouldn't expect or demand this unattainable goal. Other countries seem to know this, probably from years of living next door to one another in close confines and fighting endless wars for centuries.

Evil is cunning and will always find a way to slip through any crack and to appeal to the baser parts of our instincts. Our job is to fight back effectively and to still retain our essential morality and decentness as a culture and a country.

1. the press is throwing a tantrum about this.

most of them simply aren't smart enough to do their job, so they'll cling to their "banky" questions. Chuck Todd almost dropped his pacifier earlier today.

2. Well said.
It reminds me of that study that was done about identifying children as conservative or liberal in early childhood years. The future conservatives clung to their mothers and frequently cried, while future liberals were independent and adventurous as young children.

4. I think that children who are independent and adventurous as children
are encouraged to be that way. The parents know that there is always some risk in the world, but it's preferable to having their kids live in knee pads and helmets even while they sleep.

I think you are on to something. Conservatives do seem to believe that if you are restrictive and punitive enough you can keep the world at bay. It is a real difference in outlook and worldview.
