Political Civil War in New York; Paterson and Gillibrand in Trouble in 2010
Just like I have been predicting, David Paterson completely mishandled thi selection of NY Senate replacement for Secy Hillary Clinton. Caroline Kennedy has come out blasting Paterson and his aides as "mudslingers" and in Mornig Joe (Scarborough, Andrea Mitchell, David Gregory) Paterson has been described as "despicable" and even Mort Zuckerman who had dinner last night with Paterson did not paint a very flattering picture of Paterson and his aides in this process. They point to Patsy's aides as "disgusting" for trying to savage Caroline saying "look at her taxes", "check out her marital problems". So, it looks like Paterson is toast and will definitely get challenged in the primaries by none other than Hamlet on the Hudson AG Andrew Cuomo or even Rep. Carolyn Maloney. In the meantime, Rep. Kirsten Gillenbrand will likely get tarnished by this Paterson mud but her main problem is that she will be challenged by popular U.S. Rep. Carolyn McCarthy. You see, Gillibrand is a Blue Dog Democrat, a darling of the NRA receiving a 100% rating from this organization and McCarthy is an avid gun control enthusiast whose husband was gunned down by maniacal Long Island Railroad murderer Colin Ferguson. Rep. McCarthy is already on record saying that if Gillibrand got the nod, she would instantly mount a primary challenge to defeat her in 2010. So, it looks like New York politics is again a melee, so fasten your seatbelts because in this melee we will see Michael Bloomberg, Rudy Giuliani and one of the Kennedy clan, probably Robert Kennedy, Jr.

3. 2 years from now people might forget all this. Americans have very short attention
spans.

7. Paterson did worse than Blago; at least Blago gave us Burris who is better
than Gillibrand and her RW credentials. Freepers must be in ecstasy.

6. Gillibrand a better choice than downstater McCarhty or Mahoney...
Edited on Fri Jan-23-09 08:34 AM by whistler162
would have been nice if he picked Bea Gonzalez. But, I will give Gillibrand a chance.

As for who will run for what against whom. We will see in two years.

As for Kennedy's "tax", "nanny", and "marital" problems I will wait until I see more than a one line blurb repeated by every news agency.

8. OK, Roberto. I've bookmarked your post here.
We'll see how your crystal ball fares in the coming months.

I like Paterson. I like his chances.

Mort Zuckerman is a tool.

10. Thanks. New York will be an exciting place in politics in 2010. And Obama
will not come to help Paterson and certainly will not back Gillibrand, you'll see.

12. Ok. But I think Paterson may be a lot more politically astute than
his detractors believe, and I think Gillibrand is a promising statewide candidate.

And I expect Obama will support them both.

15. Lot better than downstater rep's who probably don't
remember there is a state north of the Tappan Zee!

I will let her do the job and then decide in 2010 whether to vote for her.

13. Rep McCarty is a very localized issue candidate, while Sen Gillibrand
will probably replace Biden as VP in 2012 and be our POTUS 45 in 2016.

18. Gillibrand handed Sandy Treadwell, a rotten bastard Repuke, his ass on a silver platter
Edited on Fri Jan-23-09 09:24 AM by mtnsnake
after he broke all kinds of records on the amount of money he spent running some of the NASTIEST campaign ads in the history of New York State. Thank god Kirsten prevailed, despite Treadwell's constant barrage of bullshit about her.

Congresswoman Gillibrand just happened to win a second term in an area of New York that leans Republican, so it was no small feat that she warded off that Right Wing asshole, Treadwell.

Best of luck to Senator Gillibrand!

22. your post is nothing more than that of a disappointed
Kennedy supporter.

You've been pushing CK for weeks - now you lash out at Patterson and Gillibrand using the words of a piece of shit like Mort Zuckerman.

Gillibrand is an ok choice, she is much more representative of where NY actually is politically than either Kennedy or McCarthy, both of who would have had problems winning over upstate. She and Patterson will be judged by voters over how they do the next two years, not over some imagined slight of Caroline Kennedy...

24. I'm just happy it wasn't a Cuomo or a Kennedy
So...there you go.

And let's be fair. It's not like Paterson is in the most stable of positions to begin with. If you get your job because the previous governor is a whore-monger...you are probably going to have some issues.
