Gitmo letter to the editor
I ripped of a quick letter to the editor of my local paper today. These kinds of things have to be brief and simple due to the constraints placed on the writer by the paper. Please read and comment.

Also, i encourage everyone to write letters to their papers as well. If you don't like to write or are lazy, please just copy mine and send it in as your own. We have the White House on our side so its time to start banging the boards of public opinion. If you think being vocal is the answer, point it at the court of public opinion.

Gitmo

Some people have groused about the closing of Gitmo as if somehow it served as a beacon for security and freedom. Without bleeding heart passion or emotion, I submit the following facts as confirmed by the Bush administration. Of the 775 people in Gitmo, only 245 remain but only two trials have been completed. 55% of those detainees where found to pose no threat. While one wishes to trust the governments judgment on these prisoners and hope that only people that where doing wrong where caught, the above fact inserts a sober reality. What about those that remain, surely they where busted in the act. Unfortunately, that’s not true either. Of those in Gitmo, only 5% where detained by U.S. forces, while a full 86% where turned in by an Afghan or Pakistani citizen for money. Out of all this, the oddest fact is the ages of those detained which range from 13 at the youngest to 98 at the oldest.

Don’t imagine for a second that anyone needs to be released when Gitmo closes. These people will just need to be detained on U.S. soil where they are subject to our own human rights laws. It should be clear that each persons stand on Gitmo reflects their idea of America as a rule by force country or one of rule by law.
