Just watched Gillibrand on the local nooz, and...
if she's as good a Senator as she talked, Paterson made the right choice.

Perfect? Of course not, but who is?

But she's MY Senator and I like her so far, so the rest of you can kiss my rosy red ass.

politicians are not graded on how good their daddies were.

Or uncles, or BFF who happens to be the current POTUS, and on and on. I'm glad Kennedy didn't get it. She has poor communication skills and apparently a closet full of skeletons. That being said, I am grateful to her for getting Ted's endorsement of Barack and for her help in vetting the VP candidates. :)

16. In spite of those things, I'd have rather had her be appointed
Because she was a lot more liberal than Gillibrand, and some of the blistering attacks on her made me start rooting for her despite my concerns about nepotism.

26. Honestly...
Edited on Fri Jan-23-09 01:37 PM by TTUBatfan2008
I think she was trying to take advantage of her relationship with the President moreso than her past name. No one would have considered her at all if it wasn't for her name, of course, but I don't think she would have even bothered going after this if she wasn't a good friend of the President. If Hillary had won the nomination, does anyone really think Kennedy would have gone after the seat? She was trying to coattail on Obama's success. I'm not really a fan of that, although I am sure she would have been a good ally for him in the Senate. We'll see how this Gillibrand lady acts in the Senate. If she turns out to be a blue dog, I've got a feeling she will get voted out of office at some point.

can attain undeserved levels of support because of their last name, and can end up fucking things up royally.

19. That's the problem, I was NOT a Kennedy supporter - I was PLAYED by Schumer/Clinton DLC thugs.
I'm really sorry for that. Compared to this "Palin version" of a Democrat, I'd much prefer even "a political elite."

Hell, maybe Kristin "Oakley" and Palin can go aerial hunting of Wolves together?

I'm just sick of all the ankle biters around here, 'specially the ones with their own problem politicos, opining on the basis of half-truths or outright ignorance.

Jeez, she hasn't even been sworn in yet but she's pilloried because of what she "might" do. Or not do.

35. I too watched and thought the opposite...
She rambled on and on like a giddy schoolkid. Her remarks didn't have a lot of coherence and then she started talking about property taxes as if that had anything to do with the US Senate. She talked about protecting victims from gun crimes but respecting the hunters rights. That rhetoric doesn't seem consistent with a 100% NRA voting record.

I know very little about her other than Schumer was ecstatic with the pick. Hopefully she will be a good Senator.

Apparently she rambled on so long that President Obama who was on the phone to congratulate her had to hang up.
