PLEDGE: I will no longer link "Politico" articles in any thread I start or participate in!
Edited on Fri Jan-23-09 04:55 PM by FrenchieCat
Here are the last two items initiated by Politico that forced my hand--

Politico Reporter's fucked attitude towards our New President
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=385&topic_id=263728&mesg_id=263774

and this garbage:

Politico puts Michelle Obama on a list of 'Frenemies' to the White House
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389x4897893

I wrote about Politico back in August,
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=132&topic_id=6730613

and my view has only changed in that, rather than discrediting them at this point,
I'm just done with them, as they have proven to be worthless!

I posted this in another thread, but Wonkette made the same decision today.

http://wonkette.com/405729/not-to-be-sexist-but-politico-is-pmsing-real-bad-like-women-do

"Last night Obama went to introduce himself to the White House press corps briefly, politely. A Politico reporter started harassing him about one of his appointments. Obama told him to STFU, he could ask it at the next briefing. Politico writes the following lede this morning: “President Obama made a surprise visit to the White House press corps Thursday night, but got agitated when he was faced with a substantive question.”
Do Jonathan Martin and Carrie Budoff Brown, the co-authors of this whiny, vapid bullshit, think that anyone else cares how hard they have to work to get information? Why do we even link to this vulgar asshole of a publication anymore, now that the election’s over? We’re keeping people like Roger Simon and Mike Allen and Jonathan Martin employed by doing this! Enough.

Your associate editor, at least, is making a belated “New Years Resolution” to never link to Politico again (after this one!), except for Ben Smith and Michael Calderone stuff. They are friendly. Maybe the gal who writes Shenanigans too, or the guy(s) who write(s) the Congress blog. Basically we will stop linking to these particularly retarded, trollish articles Politico front-pages just to get a crappy 2-minute panel slot on AC 360 later in the night. (They actually have full-time employees whose job it is to book their idiot reporters on cable news shows. This alone should be reason enough never to do anything good for Politico.)"

15. I'll take the pledge ... with one caveat
if they happen to break some huge BREAKING news that is based on FACT and has SOURCED quotes, then there could be some utility to it. That's a big IF.

As far as these stupid ass "opinion" pieces, I have never linked to them and never will as they have no merit and are purely the imaginings of blowhards who are trying to think of something controversial to say in order to spur website hits.

Edited on Fri Jan-23-09 05:23 PM by Hissyspit
and mix in subtle slanted biased pieces. Then the opinion pieces are another matter altogether.

People should definitely take everything they see from Politico with a BIG grain of salt. It is a right-wing news source and there is an agenda there. I have only posted one, possibly two, news articles from them since they have existed, and so it is a general rule of thumb for me to not post anything from them.

I'm not big on making pledges, though.

38. Just posted this factoid myself
I was watching the day Smirky mentioned politico from his podium. Because Bush is such an idiot, it was almost painfully obvious that the mention was completely staged and designed to promote the site. In short, it also seems obvious that the Bushies and the right wing wanted desperately to provide a counter to KOS, DU and other web sites.

Politico is a propaganda platform for the right wing.

Edited on Fri Jan-23-09 06:02 PM by RFKHumphreyObama
I came across Politico's website early last year at the start of the primary season -before I found any links to it from DU or anywhere else -and the style and tone of the publication gave me a very bad vibe in terms of political bias. I have never consulted that online publication again and this from a person who loves online political websites and surfs them for several hours a day.

This latest garbage smearing Obama only confirms that it values its political agenda over providing reliable news and information. Additionally they seem to have an inflated sense of their own self-importance and credibility. In that respect it is not dissimilar to FAUX news

posting links to politico, sludge, hannity, fox "news", goldberg, and so forth. The mods have refused my many requests to send those people and their filth to the "conservatives" forum. So most of them are now on my Ignore list. Come to think of it, you just posted a whole bunch, so I assume you're one of the addicts who is not as yet on the list.

"Politico puts Michelle Obama on a list of 'Frenemies' to the White House
Edited on Fri Jan-23-09 04:18 PM by BurtWorm
According to Feministe:

http://www.feministe.us/blog/archives/2009/01/23/michel... /

At Politico, Glenn Thrush has made a list of “Frenemies” to the White House — Democrats who could cause Barack Obama some serious problems. The last person on the list? His own wife:

10. Michelle Obama — She’s glamorous, she’s on message, she’s the nation’s favorite mom — and now she has nowhere to go but down. The press, which helped savage Michelle Obama for her “proud of my country” remark during the campaign, has since built her into a 21st century Jackie O. With the spotlight shining so brightly on her now, any misstep by the first lady — a slip of the tongue, a too-frank statement, any disagreement with the administration’s positions — could reflect harshly on her husband.

Right, and I’m sure that anything Barack does that pisses us off — like say, refusing to overturn the Global Gag Rule on Roe Day because he wants to take the emotions out of whether or not thousands and thousands of women die (oh yeah, argue with me all you want, but I’m bitter) — will leave us all looking in Michelle’s direction saying “oooh, who did you marry?” Yes?

No? What do you mean? Are you saying that it’s only Michelle’s own actions that reflect on her? What a novel concept. And one that many apparently think doesn’t apply in reverse.

This “what your spouse does automatically reflects on you” nonsense has to end, across the board. And especially in situations like this.

I’m with Michelle Obama Watch:

So in otherwords, Michelle Obama had better be PERFECT for the next four years or its open season by unhinged “journalists.” What else is new.

This sounds so much like the New York Times and their “Michelle is TOO Strong” meme. With all due respect to the geniuses at Politico.com this sounds very much like a self-fufilling prophecy.

Not, I’m sure, that this is the last we’ll see of such drivel about a First Lady who isn’t afarid to share her own thoughts, and refuses to purposely fade into the wallpaper. Women using their brains? What an embarassment to their husbands!"

I hope they get locked out of all press conferences. They are going to lie and spin anyway.

37. LOL! Within days of going live at Politico, Smirky mentioned them BY NAME
At one press conference days after Politico went live, Bush went out of his way to mention the web site and call on their "reporter". The mention was obvioulsy a staged and prepared part of that particular press conference. If SMirky was eager to mention Politico, you can bet that the Bushies knew the web site was going to be another propaganda platform for their side.

In short, Politico is a stacked deck and solely designed to work in the interests of the right wing.
