34. I keep telling people, she's the Pet Rock of 2008.
Sounded like a good idea at first, but in the end it's still just a stupid rock.

7. I remember saying that about another idiot.
When the media started talking about W running, I remember saying "Pleasepleaseplease, that would be such an easy win for us!" I think some people felt that way about Reagan in 1980, too.

Never underestimate the ability of the American people to be bamboozled by the PR Department of the Republican Party--ie, the media.

18. If anything...
The specter of Bush will still loom too large in '12 for Sarah to have any hope of avoiding a landslide defeat.

21. I'm not so confident. Clinton proved that conclusively after Reagan/Bush
yet enough people still voted for W over Clinton's VP (including those "progressives" who voted for Nader) to allow W to steal it. Hell, even here there are Clinton bashers. Intelligence and stunning success are no gaurantee over stupidity and failure in an election.

And that's even assuming Obama has any measurable success by 2012. He has a daunting task and very little room for error, and even if he does everything perfectly, he may not have much to show for it early on. Plus, people are so hung up on ideological hot button issues, on both sides, that simply straightening out the economy and saving the world wouldn't be enough even if Obama achieved that. George W's slogan after Clinton was "They haven't led, we will." Never have more utterly false words been issued in a presidential election, yet despite unmitigated success on foreign and domestic policies under Clinton, half of America believed him.

No letting down of one's guard, no trusting American voters to be smart. If Reagan didn't teach us that, then W should have. Too many Americans vote for red herrings, too few for reality.

Bringing up Nader to some of my progressive friends who voted for him in 2000 brings on looks of shame and guilt.

27. Yeah, but Palin is Obama's best shot even if he screws up royally
She's a god damned idiot. Everyone knows that. I would LOVE for Palin to be the GOP nom in 2012. I just don't see it happening though. If Obama does well, there will be a "sacrificial lamb" candidate because no one serious will run. If he does poorly, I think any of the other Governors who might run would get the nom over Palin.

29. There's a difference, W and Reagan were untested
Palin has been tested and failed miserably. Additionally, Reagan doesn't fall into the same category as W or Palin. He may have been dumb as a fucking post but he was also an extremely skilled natural politician which W and Palin aren't. Also W didn't win in 2000 and was clearly the less electable candidate. McCain would've most likely actually beaten Gore.

36. There must have been another Reagan that I never saw.
I keep hearing Democrats praise him, and all I ever saw was a blathering idiot who couldn't put two complete thoughts together without someone writing them for him and having him memorize them. The conventional wisdom on him in 80 was that he couldn't think on his feet and couldn't get facts straight to save his life. The media hyped his charm so much that people believed it. If they did that to Palin in 2012, who knows what people would decide? She's (barely) smarter than Reagan and Bush, but she lacked any understanding of national politics and didn't have as many years to prepare as W and Reagan did.

Maybe she's damaged beyond repair. Frankly, I don't care, since I don't think the Repubicans could nominate anyone capable even if they wanted to.If it's not her, it will be someone equally as bad. I just don't trust the media, though. I watched them in Texas sell W--a man who was a laughing stock even when he announced he was running--and I watched them sell Reagan--who had been a laughing stock nationally when he ran in 76. I remember twice thinking no one was dumb enough to vote for Bush--for governor and then for president.

I really have no trust in American voters. They go for the glitz and glammer every time. Now and then we get lucky and the glitz aligns with a qualified candidate, but that usually only happens after a Republican has screwed everything up so badly that not even the media can apply enough lipstick to the pig.

I'll be happy to be proven wrong, but I won't take anything for granted these days.

37. He read the script very very well which is a valuable skill
Off of the script you are right he was just as much of a blathering idiot as Palin or W, but with the teleprompter in front of him he was miles ahead of almost anybody.

8. If i still live in Virginia I might vote for her
We have wide open primaries here (you just say which party's ballot you want at the polls) and if a candidate has no opposition he or she is not on the ballot. I don't want to not vote so if Obama has no opposition I'll have to vote in the GOP primary. So I'll have to decide whether to vote for the one I'd find most tolerable (probably Huckabee) or the one I think would be easiest to beat (probably Palin). I guess it depends how things look in January of 2012. I honestly think Obama is going to get reelected or he's not depending on the economy and it almost doesn't matter who the Republicans run.

Hunts, cooks, cleans, has excellent long distance vision for spying on distant countries, and it can put a dress on a moose or lipstick on a pitbull, even in the field.

38. Dirty laundry
http://www.alternet.org/blogs/peek/122200/

NewMajority has a report today that Sarah Palin's infamous wardrobe has not been given to charity as promised by the McCain campaign after the amazing bill was revealed in October.
McCain even told the press that "one-third of the clothing was "given back."

But for reasons that remain mysterious, the clothes remain stashed at the RNC's Washington, D.C., headquarters. A source close to the issue told NewMajority that the clothes are "in the process" of being donated, and an RNC spokesman corroborated, saying the clothes have indeed been returned from Palin, "inventoried and will be appropriately dispersed to various charities." Attempts for an explanation of when and where the clothes will be donated went unanswered, and the governor's Alaska office does not comment on campaign issues.

The fact that the clothes have not been donated or publicly accounted for, however, has angered some big donors - who want to know exactly how their money was spent, and who are already enraged by the extravagant wardrobe figure. They say it's time for the RNC to air its dirty laundry, if you will.

39. I saw one the other day too.
At a gas station where I work - kind of a redneck town, but not completely - I work there too, and there are more than a few Obama stickers and t-shirts. But this palin-2012 sticker was on a large pick up truck with several old men gathered outside.

You know, I don't begrudge them their opinions. I just wish they were more informed. And even then, if they supported repukes, I wish they'd broaden their horizons beyond palin. She's just a symbol of ignorance. Why would anyone support an unqualified, dare I say ditzy, person for president? Because she said terrist and socialist? Really, is that all the need?
