3. There have been mumbles about Souter and Ginsberg retiring.
As for replacements, I'm hoping for Sonia Sotomayor. She's relatively young (born 1954), has tons of experience, actually interprets the Constitution rather than rely on some vague understanding of the Founder's "intentions", and apparently Rush Limbaugh hates her. ;)

4. I believe that Justice Stevens is the oldest.
Here's his Wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Justice_Stevens

He was one of the four dissenters from that 200 SCOTUS decision. Here's what he wrote in his dissent:

"What must underlie petitioners' entire federal assault on the Florida election procedures is an unstated lack of confidence in the impartiality and capacity of the state judges who would make the critical decisions if the vote count were to proceed. Otherwise, their position is wholly without merit. The endorsement of that position by the majority of this Court can only lend credence to the most cynical appraisal of the work of judges throughout the land. It is confidence in the men and women who administer the judicial system that is the true backbone of the rule of law. Time will one day heal the wound to that confidence that will be inflicted by today's decision. One thing, however, is certain. Although we may never know with complete certainty the identity of the winner of this year's Presidential election, the identity of the loser is perfectly clear. It is the Nation's confidence in the judge as an impartial guardian of the rule of law.

I respectfully dissent."

Think on that!: "Although we may never know with complete certainty the identity of the winner of this year's Presidential election, the identity of the loser is perfectly clear"

It may not all that easy finding a suitable replacement for Justice Stevens, but I have full confidence in President Obama doing that.

9. Age may or may not determine this.
I'd be very happy if Mr. Justice Stevens stays on for a while.

7. I think Clarence Thomas really, really, really wants to retire
He must be bored stiff doing almost nothing. Would he receive a pension if he retired?

8. Barack names Noam Chomsky Secretary of Commerce and Scalia strokes out!
Replace his worthless ass with Rachel Maddow (no, a law degree is not constitutionally required to serve on the supreme court). The Maddow nomination would likely cause Clarence Thomas's head to explode and we've got another opening....Life is good

12. I want Fat Tony Scalia to retire first
As for his replacement...I'm not really all that up on judges and lawyers, but it seems to me there's a nice young female lawyer at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue who would be more than up to the challenge of serving on the Supreme Court.

And I don't think there's any law that says he can't put his own wife on the Supreme Court. She'd do a good job, too.
