Clinton: Obama Will Succeed Where I Failed
In speech at NC State, the former president says universal health care is possible with new administration's deficit spending.

"We can do health care now because we have to grow the economy. We must do it. That's a good thing."

2. Oh yeah, the Clintons are so bitter
...about Obama's victory. Sorry, but I am so sick of hearing the chattering classes (Dowd, this Sunday, Tweety tonight) going on about what sore losers the Clintons are.
Conjecture du jour...that Bill and Hill are thrilled about the Caroline Kennedy withdrawal/rejection. CHEEESH. Surely even the nastiest Clinton detractors have to admit that these people are hard-nosed practical politicians, too smart to waste energy on such petty resentments. Thanks for letting me vent.

14. Well, who pays attention to two of the biggest a-holes in the business?
MoDo is one nasty, bitter woman with a Hillary hatred syndrome for which she should seek treatment since it appears to be pathological.

Matthews is just a big joke and an embarrassment. Mr. "Tingling Leg" and his asinine running commentary are a disgrace to the profession.

For my own peace of mind, I avoid reading her columns or watching him on TV.

19. I cannot stand Maureen Dowd , and I don't understand why the liberal establishment
continues to embrace her as their own. She is really a shill and is to be blamed for how she trashed Al Gore and John Kerry as "girlie men," leading to the GOP's co-optation of the term. I cannot stand that woman and liberals need to wake up and stop embracing her.

I'm sure most people on this forum know that I'm no big fan of the Clintons because of their DLC politics, but I must say that both Madam Secretary and President Bill have handled themselves with class throughout this entire transition period. I am thrilled that they are standing firmly behind the president. There has not been one mishap, one misspoken word or comment at all. These are very classy people. I hope it continues.

She's so negative she makes me look like Up With People.

3. I think Bill Clinton will turn out to be one of Obama's closest advisors
even if it is sort of 'off the record.'

He would be a great resource, imho.

And that his face is red, or something.

10. I disagree.
The Clinton plan was flawed because it made too many concessions to private insurers.

It didn't get major support from the public primarily for that reason. It was designed by committee of people who fundamentally disagreed on the social value of the idea.

I love Bill, but Obama does not need his advice to form/guide/promote a truly universal healthcare plan. I suggest they let congress pass a plan and then sign it.

Gawd knows it took long enough. :eyes:

Guess President Obama's strategy of co-opting his political rivals into falling in line behind his leadership is working.

15. I think BC is making excuses for his failure.
His leadership style is miles apart from Obama's. BC had ZERO coattails as evidenced by losing Congress right out of the box in 1994 and more seats in 1996.

Obama has a healthy respect for the team and intends to grow the majority to pass huge legislation. He could have used Caroline Kennedy for that, an ally, as opposed to a Blue Dog democrat, a group known for going off the reservation and obstructing their own party.

Regardless of the subterfuge and feigned vapors people are exhibiting here at DU, the Clinton vendetta against the Kennedys for passing the baton to Obama is alive and well and as self-serving as ever.

The past is prologue.

16. Of course... I noticed his rationalizations which the reporter corrected with inconvenient facts.

What Bill can never admit out loud is that President Obama will avoid the self-indulgent arrogant mistakes of the
Clintons' healthcare fiasco which led to the loss of the Democratic majority in Congress for the first time in 40 years
and ushered in Tom DeLay and Newt Gingrich's ascent. No more DLC pandering which during the Clinton years led
to massive media deregulation, DOMA, and DADT, as well as banking deregulation via Phil Gramm, McCain's good
buddy.

Regardless of the subterfuge and feigned vapors people are exhibiting here at DU, the Clinton vendetta against the
Kennedys for passing the baton to Obama is alive and well and as self-serving as ever... The past is prologue.

Forever and always, here and everywhere. Fortunately, Obama Democrats are ascendant, where their numbers are
ever dwindling, no matter how loudly coordinated their cheering section seems. After eight years, who knows what
Richardson and the Kennedys will be doing with President Obama behind them? I have a feeling you and I will be
happy with the future of the two-term Obama administration.

24. I watched it - and he did what he had to - and not really anything more
What I noticed was that he got enormous applause ... when he first took the podium and he was applauded throughout - but nowhere near as much at the beginning. It seemed that people were thrilled to see him, but somewhat disapointed as when he finished. (It was a better speech than the ones he gave for Gore or Kerry, where he spent most of the time speaking of what he had done.)
