DU this poll about the proposed Freedom Tower.
On 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, David Shuster just did a story about the delays and mismanagement at ground zero.

As someone who passes by the old WTC everyday I am disgusted by the lack of progress.

There is a poll at Shuster's page on MSNBC.com asking viewers if they believe we should go ahead with the current uninspiring(my words) plans or if we should go with a new plan that would build the old towers which will be designed safer.

I for one am for building up the old WTC. Nothing will heal those old wounds better (at least for me).

2. I say rebuild them as they were but just one story higher (Olbermann's concept) & let the top floors
be sanctuaries open to the public.

3. i TOTALLY agree that the Twin Towers should be rebuilt!
Edited on Mon Jan-26-09 07:13 PM by musette_sf
one fvcking story higher on each!

i watched them go up, and i watched them go down. i would love to watch a live cam every day of WTC construction!!!

the "Freedom Tower" is so butt ugly. and it would be only a continuing reminder of sadness and loss. the damn hole is better to look at than the "Freedom Tower". i go and visit the hole at least once a year so i know from where i speak. the "Freedom Tower" is more like the "Sadass Pathetic Depressing Structure Where No One Will Ever Rent Without Huge Incentives".

hopefully now we can stop naming things "Freedom" this and "Liberty" that. the Bu$hCo oxymorons (e.g., "Healthy Forests", "Clear Skies") are no longer required.

5. The Freedom Tower looks like shit.
Looks like it's designed by the same firm that puts up those damn big box furniture or electronic stores with the goofy "false front" entrances that go out of business after six months and wind up a perpetual eye-sore.

6. The twin towers of the WTC represented one thing - making money.
The hole in the ground where they used to be represents the same thing. Too may people are making too much money with the "progress" as it is than if they'd had the thing built in a few years.

7. I hoped they would just turn it into a park..NYC needs more green space
than more tall buildings..The people who rented space there have moved on anyway...

10. I support rebuilding two towers of greater height...
...and more inspired design.

Nothing would say "fuck you" more clearly than to rebuild new towers on the same site and make them taller.

Architectural competitions are often a big wet mess and waste of money, such was, IMO, the "freedom towers" circle jerk.

18. I pass by there every now and then.
I'm always amazed at how little progress they have made. You would think they could at least have the foundation poured by now.

I don't know about rebuilding the twin towers, but I think the Freedom Tower is going to be annoying to look at. If you consider that it's going to be over 300 feet taller than the Empire State Building (500 if you don't count the antenna), and the ESB already looms over the rest of the skyline, this thing is going to be ridiculous.
