When will Obama be getting their dog?
Just curious to when Obama will be getting his girls the new puppy, anyone know? Is there a certain time of the year when Presidents get the White House dog? Or can they get it whenever they want/have time to spare?

8. From Canada, are you nuts?..........
Edited on Sat Jan-31-09 05:11 AM by Joe the Liberal
The dog has to be from America, I don't even want to begin to imagine what the Freepers/Faux noise would use this for. In fact I can see it now.....

"Obama is Anti-American for not getting a dog from inside the US"

"Obama finally got his dog but is it a terrorist pup from outside the US?"

"Obama's puppy is an illegal alien, Obama getting a dog from outside the US shows hes anti-American"

Man they would go crazy, however I would find it amusing to see what they would come up with.

3. I would imagine summer would be a good time.
The kids will be out of school and it will be warmer when it comes time to walk the dog. Maybe late spring would be a good time too.

20. Yeah, maybe spring break. You're right about summer but this is like
waiting for Christmas for cryin' out loud!!! I'm probably more impatient than the girls are.

4. After they are settled and feel at home in the Whitehouse
was my understanding of when the puppy was coming. It seems like with that time-line maybe late Spring.

6. What a cutie!
It would be a good move in a number of ways for the Canadians to be able to give one of these pups to the Obama girls.

Thanks for the link to the article.

11. Yep, that photo is on the article about the puppy..
.
.

A Labra-doodle puppy offered by the Winnipeg Humane Society
to U.S. President Barack Obama.

Here's what the article says:

"Bill McDonald, of the Winnipeg Humane Society, realized right away that he might be able to help.

The Humane Society had helped police bust an illegal puppy mill in the city, and had seized 21 Labradoodle puppies and two pregnant females.

One of those females, Lilly, has now given birth to a litter of 11 "health, vibrant and rambunctious" puppies.

McDonald thinks one of those puppies would make a perfect addition to the White House. They are now five weeks old and will be ready for adoption in mid-February.

23. That dog is too adorable! A dog is a dog is a dog and they all
need good homes and lots of love. It doesn't make any difference where it comes from, IMO.

12. Why are the Obama's dragging their feet on this? I'm starting to feel sorry for those girls.
This is turning into bad PR, because the dog thing was the most endearing part of the election and yet it's been 3 months and no dog, which is really NOT fair to the kids.

Also, there is no "good time" to get a dog. Puppies will bite, chew, scratch, run around, throw up, poop, pee and get things dirty no matter what season it is.

So watch out for that "precious" rug of *'s in the oval office!

25. The girls already knew they would not be getting the dog right away
It was part of the agreement Barack and Michelle made with the girls that they would be waiting until they were settled.

22. Obama said in an interview that they would all need time to get used to their
new house and the girls needed to get used to their new routine and school before it would be right to add a puppy to the mix. I agree with him, even though I'm impatient.

28. It's a family decision and the girls are fine with it
Michelle said in an interview that they understand that it will be around March after they are settled into the White House and into their school.

She said the girls understand this and are fine with it.

Also, it's not that easy to find the 2 breeds they are looking for in a shelter.

14. Probably in the Springtime.
As a dog owner, I can empathize with the desire to FIRST take the new puppy outside when the weather is more moderate vice bone chilling cold.
