I mean really, when's the last time you've seen a democrat running for office attack their opponent for ignoring minorities? It's all in the GOP's actions that have caused people to say it's a white's only party where minorities aren't welcome. The GOP did that to themselves by refusing to stick their necks out for those minority groups when they needed it most. I mean look at what happened to the GOPers in congress who used to support immigration reform, they folded under pressure from the base and abandoned their previous positions for fear of getting primaried out, they folded even though they knew the future of their party depended on capturing the Hispanic vote.

If the GOP keeps on using hated/persecuted minority groups for scare tactics/rallying the base, like Hispanics, Muslims, gays, etc, they're going to burn a large part of the electorate that may have supported them otherwise. Worse yet, whenever they bash groups like Gays and talks about the 'horrors' of gay marriage they burn support from more then just gays, they burn it from young people to, that overwhelmingly support gay rights/marriage. Obviously a political party can't keep on losing the young vote by a 2 to 1 margin like the GOP did this year, and expect to still be a major force in politics in another decade or two (assuming of course that future young people continue to support democrats over republicans), how someone votes the first few times they do is often how they vote for the rest of their life.

If Steele comes up with some honest policies and changes which embrace AAs, Republicans might be able to peel off about 10% more than George W. Bush had.

That would be devastating for Democrats. The fact that 85% or more of voting AAs choose Democrats in most elections since Civil Rights is problematic for Republicans. That 10% in Ohio helped Bush in 2004.

Among the victims of the Democratic sweep on Election Day were Maryland Republican Gov. Robert L. Ehrlich, Jr., who was running for reelection, and Maryland Republican Lt. Gov. Michael S. Steele, who was running for U.S. Senate. Both lost. But before you shed too many tears for them, check out this dirty trick that their campaigns have admitted to.

The goal was to capture African-American voters. This is not an easy thing for a Republican to accomplish in Maryland, even if, like Steele, you happen to be African-American yourself. But the black vote was deemed crucial, and postelection analysis suggests this proved true. So the Ehrlich and Steele campaigns sent out to heavily Democratic black neighborhoods in Prince George's County flyers that were designed to deceive black voters into thinking the candidates had been endorsed by three popular Maryland African-American politicians: Prince George's County Executive Jack B. Johnson, former P.G. County Executive Wayne K. Curry, and former Rep. Kweisi Mfume, who more recently served as president of the NAACP. (In fact, two of these three men had endorsed Ehrlich and Steele's Democratic opponents, Baltimore Mayor Martin O'Malley and Democratic Rep. Ben Cardin. The third, Curry, endorsed Steele but not Ehrlich.)

To give the documents credibility, the campaigns needed to find African-American campaign workers to distribute them. So, they bused in homeless blacks from Pennsylvania and Delaware, paying them $100 and feeding them two meals. When asked by reporters about the flyer, Ehrlich pointed out that it is legal for workers from out of state to participate in local get-out-the-vote activities: "If folks are here from out of town that's fine with me.
