...the Steelers have won a league championship of American football. That's all. This "World Championship" crap is pure arrogance and hubris. There is also a Canadian Football League. Why not have the Steelers play their Grey Cup champion?? Also "World Series"?? WTF?? There are other baseball leagues in Japan, Korea and Central America. Why not get together and decide once and for all a true world baseball championship.

Soccer's World Cup is probably the only sport that holds a true "World Championship".

The World Series is a joke? Anybody that says that is an idiot. Major League baseball teams have players from all over the world. It is by far the best baseball league in the world. Why do you think the best players from Japan, South America, Asia, and other parts of the world come to the US to play in that league?

Just a few years ago. Japan and Cuba have some excellent talent on a par with Americans. I did not say the World Series was a joke, but the name was since it is simply a US/Canadian baseball championship between two competing leagues. The provincialism of some Americans is simply astounding!!

of calling oneselves "World Champions" when all they've done is win a league championship of American Football. BTW, wouldn't a sport played with the foot be properly called "football"?? We are the only country on earth to call it something else aka "soccer" a corruption of "Association Football". The only time American Football is played with the foot is during kickoffs, punts or field goals.

73. Well, the two sports (and rugby, and Australian Rules Football) all come from the same root sport.
It's not surprising that Australia, America, and Great Britain would each keep the name "football" for the particular strains that grew to prominence in each country.

millions of dollars worth of ridiculous, overhyped adverts. Pick up on the crass commercial angle a bit. Actually a lot. A whole lot.

Put a team together, for that matter. They couldn't ever be more consistently disappointing than my home town Dolphins. Sky's the limit.

80. Association Football may not be best for this, but Cricket sure is.
I mean, the Indian Premier League only started this year and they got a shedload of money... started off with $1Bn for domestic TV rights alone let alone other corporate deals (Citigroup - your tax bailout dollars at work). The teams, the commercialization - so... American - in India, playing an English sport.

The 20twenty style of cricket can really get commercial, if wanted to.

Heck, even Test cricket (the kind that goes on for days) has plenty of opportunities for commercial broadcasters to interrupt with commercials. If you watch Test cricket on like the BBC, most of the time you're watching the bowler polish the ball, or the batter getting prepared...

74. Child, my husband says the same thing! lol
Wanna make an Aussie like my husband mad?? Mention The WORLD SERIES!

I have found that few things make international sports fans more irate than the American idea that the winner of sporting events that only take place in America constitute a "world" title. It is both baffling and infuriating to the rest of the planet.

77. I don't find it infuriating
but, born and bred here in the US, I've always thought it was a bit arrogant. But then I'm not much of a sports fan. I can totally visualize an Aussie sports nut going ballistic.

 for Jackeens

76. I hate watching a game that can be dominated by one team,
but the other team wins 1-0 because of a stupid penalty kick. Widen the damn goal. Until then I'll watch football.

78. And for that matter, I don't know why Gaelic Football and Hurling aren't bigger here.
Gaelic Football, especially, seems to be the perfect middle ground between American football and that other unfortunate hands-free sport of a similar name. High speed, few pads, uninterrupted action, guaranteed blood. What's not to like?

79. We noted the same thing in Toronto in 1992
The first time EVER that a "World Series" baseball title had ever gone to a non-American team.

Apart from the Montreal Expos, there never HAD been a non-American team in the "World Series".
