So where does the Franken/Coleman mess stand?

Here we are two full months after a senatorial election and a winner has not been seated.

How much longer does this go on?

This is looking very silly.

1. Al is in Florida and Norm is in court.

Sooner or later "they" will have to seat Al and the republicans
in Minnesota trying to stop that are looking more and more crazy.

that may give some clue as to whether this gets settled soon or not. But, "settled soon" implies going against Coleman at which point, he has already signaled an intent to take it to the US Supreme Court under the equal protection argument laid out by Gore v Bush. How that can play, I have no clue since that ridiculous decision made clear that it could not be used as precedence. :shrug:

Mess, indeed. If the FBI would just go ahead and indict Coleman (as appears likely in the future) maybe this would get cleaned up a bit quicker....

3. Imagine if this happened in every razor-thin contest.

Theoretically there could be a dozen or more races still undecided months and months after an election. Either a candidate is a winner, or not.

I find it very troubling in this day and age.

5. I don't understand why it is not an issue that Coleman has

the entire RNC paying the legal bills... How is this legal per election contributions? That is why this idiocy continues. THey know they are not going to win, but want to stretch it out as long as possible to paint Franken as not rightfully deserving of the seat--not really "elected."

4. MN has a legal process that is available to both candidates and needs to play out.

If it was Franken who was behind by a few hundred votes and had questions about the election and the legal process was available to him we would not simply expect him to concede. No matter how much we dislike him, Coleman has the same legal process available to him also. This will take as long as it takes.

6. problem with MN election law

is that it doesn't allow sitting of the declared election winner while the court case is proceeding. Franken should be seated and if the court rules otherwise, Coleman gets the seat.

Only fair way. Otherwise it just allows the losing party to put a stranglehold on the stae's represntation. And yes, I would feel the same way if the positions were reversed.
